I agree that the shutdown is not the reason some folks are backing away from Trump. Personally, I think it's a culmination of things, to include the things you mentioned. I voted for Trump with both eyes opened. I was fully aware of his many inconsistencies on illegal alien amnesty leading up to his election, that's why I supported Cruz in the primaries. My support lessened by varying degrees as time has went on. Trump first took a hit with me when he did not immediately set out to end DACA as promised (that was a big one). Since then my support has graphed downward over such things as his horrible treatment and firing of Jeff Sessions, repeated talks of amnesty and lies about the border wall to name a few.

My support for Trump is now lukewarm but he has not lost me completely. I'm keeping my fingers crossed in the hopes that he will surprise me, but I'm not betting the farm on it.

Honestly, Trump's follow through with his promise not to sign another DHS funding bill without border wall funding (the shutdown) inched my support graph line upward a bit. However, I am disappointed that he has given up on demanding the entire $25 billion that is needed.
