Both Shaw and Bacon are talking crap, the rural Mexican village farmers they support should not have expected to be able to compete against modern better organized farms in the production of bulk unprocessed grain. Not only is the cost for the production of corn lower the cost of transportation is much less for the more advanced farms than the rural ejidos. What the farmers should have done and that is even before moving here illegally is to use the grain as a raw material within their villages to produce higher value added goods with their labor. The result would be more jobs and income within the countryside and with higher value per pound a higher per centage of the final sale of goods to consumers would go to the farmers and not the truckers. The ease with which the farmers could come here undermined Mexico's development process.

Richard I agree with you. This article has us thinking that mexicans migrated here illegally because of NAFTA and that's pure BS.

Illegals have been jumping the border way before NAFTA and mostly for the social programs, free medical, free education and free welfare for each of their anchor babies = the more babies, the more money.

Take away the freebies and the jobs, they WILL self-deport. Let's try it.
