MADISON (WKOW) -- A man authorities say is in this country illegally is a fugitive after failing to show up for court in a Dane County felony, child sex assault case.

Last month, $4,500 bail was posted for 22-year-old Osmar Nocamendi of Fitchburg, and he was released from the Dane County Jail.

A warrant for Nocamendi's arrest was issued when he failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing in the case May 3.

When Nocamendi was arrested last month, a request from federal officials to detain Nocamendi was rejected by a court commissioner, in keeping with a Dane County Sheriff's policy of not honoring such requests, if the subject of the request has not been convicted.

Authorities say Nocamendi sexually assaulted and beat a 14-year-old visitor from Colombia.
