Where is the story behind this? I just got it. Did another Mexican revolution start while I was away from my desk? It would be the 5th or 6th in the last 100 years I think.

Thats it, the BBC posted the pictures after I posted the article here. I forgot to edit my first post to include the pics, but hey pics go here anyway. Is this the kind of violence we are in for if 11 - 12 million illegal immigrants get instant citizenship???

Right On! Thanks Kev! Way to stay informed!

Did those covered faces look familiar to anyone? Is that L.A. or Mexico I can't tell...(Sarc) I posted a website a while back "Mexicans Without Borders" out of WASHINGTON D.C. They had a meeting with the EZLN in MEXICO. I love how our media keeps this out of the news! I bet Univision and Telemundo had full coverage. Thank heavens we have computers.

Residents of the Mexican town of San Salvador Atenco rose up against police on Wednesday, chasing them out of town and taking control.

State riot police were brought in but could not subdue the violence. Here, officers dive for cover as a missile hits their police car.

Clashes broke out after a police operation to arrest traders without licences.

The rebellion spread to the neighbouring town of Texcoco, where residents with stones and machetes faced off against police.

Javier Cortes Santiago, 14, was killed during the clashes, but it is not clear how.

As police were forced to flee, youths seized their patrol cars, gas masks and shields. Some officers were also taken hostage.

On Thursday police were sent back in, in a concerted effort to take control of San Salvador Atenco.

Violence continued as residents manned barricades from where they rained petrol bombs on police.

Eventually police regained control, arresting those involved. Police hostages were ultimately released.
