Reconquista: Mexico's Fraudulent Land Claim

Mexicans saying the southwest was stolen is like a guy getting his vehicle repossessed claiming that his vehicle was stolen.

The southwest was a Mexican territory for a whopping 25 years. Russia also once claimed the southwest. So did France. And England. Even the natives were in continuous war over it. Only the United States secured it and legitimately won it.

For perspective, the Philippines was a U.S. territory for almost twice as long as the southwest was a Mexican territory, and until 100 years more recently.

Mexico squandered its lost holdings due to internal corruption and bankruptcy (one leads to the other) and its own raids on the United States. When it lost the ensuing war, it signed the Treaty of Guadalupe, ceding the territory to the United States and receiving cash and benevolent treatment for its ex-patriots in return. If that treaty is null and void, then I guess we're back to war with Mexico and they owe us $15 million (over $300 million with inflation) plus interest, along with $3.25 million ($70 million) in Mexican debts to American citizens assumed by the U.S. government, also at interest, plus the $10 million ($200 million) plus interest paid for the Gadsden Purchase of 1853.
