ZOGBY: 43% of Hispanics think states have right to secede

Zogby: 18% would support secession of their state; 43% of Hispanics think states have right to secede

The Middlebury Institute sponsored a Zogby Poll about secession and the results are here: http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1531
One in five American adults - 22% - believe that any state or region has the right to "peaceably secede from the United States and become an independent republic"... the percentage was slightly higher in the South (26%) and the East (24%)... the highest percentage agreeing with the right to secede was among Hispanics (43%) and African-Americans (40%). Among white respondents, 17% said states or regions should have the right to peaceably secede...

Asked whether they would support a secessionist movement in their own state, 18% said they would, with those in the South most likely to say they would back such an effort. In the South, 24% said they would support such an effort, while 15% in the West and Midwest said the same...
The full data for the poll doesn't appear to be online, but the percentages of Hispanics supporting secessionist movements in their states for the Southwest would be good to know.

When the original 13 colonies ratified the constitution, each new state reserved the right to peaceably secede from the union at any time. Although technically the civil war did not change this, the overwhelming opinion of the Northern states was that there was an unwritten timetable for these states to exercise this right. The outcome of the war eradicated any rights of secession. This, not slavery as popularly believed, was the core issue in the beginnings of the civil war. The only possible exception would be the state of Texas. Once its own sovereign nation, their constitution states that they would only be subject to their own constitution and that of the US. Many claim (I have not seen the proof, so I with hold judgment as to the accuracy of this) that They have signed papers from the US Government allowing them, with a 2/3 majority vote of the people, to once again become the Republic of Texas. regardless of the truth of this, I firmly believe that if any state tried to withdraw from the US, the results would be the same as they were in the 1860's with the exception of far more deaths.

The Federal government would also be taken over by Mexican revolutionaries (McCain's "call to arms" for illegal aliens should tip you off to this) and American citizens would probably have to pay another 20% raise in income taxes to keep a Hispanic breakaway region funded as a welfare state. The UN would also raise taxes as well.

By that time, everything will have snowballed if you get my drift...

Unfortunately, if the states did secede, we would be stupid enough to continue giving all the benefits that are currently given. As well as start giving international aid and co-signing aid loans from the World Bank, etc....
