1 killed, 8 wounded by gunfire in Chicago, including 5-year-old girl hit in ankle

A man was killed and eight other people were wounded by gunfire in Chicago Sunday through early Monday, including a 5-year-old girl on her way to a Northwest Side park and a 17-year-old boy shot by robbers outside a South Side store, according to Chicago police.
The girl was wounded when a gunman started shooting at someone around 1:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of North Monticello Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood, police said. The girl was hit as she stood in a gangway, on her way to a park with her family. She taken in a private vehicle to Swedish Covenant Hospital, police said.
In the fatal shooting, two men were walking in the 4800 block of West Monroe Street in the South Austin neighborhood around 7:35 a.m. when someone opened fire, police said.
One man was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, police said. The other man, 37, was shot in the back and went in a private vehicle to Stroger, where he was listed in good condition.

The 17-year-old boy was shot around 11:25 p.m. in the 7100 block of South State Street in the Park Manor neighborhood, police said. He was approached by two people as he was entered a store and was shot during an attempted robbery.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the neck. The attackers fled in a white Mazda and struck a car on the block, then fled on foot, police said. Two suspects were being questioned.
Other shootings:

• A 29-year-old man was shot as he drove in the 2400 block of West Division Street in Humboldt Park around 3:40 a.m. Monday, police said. Someone in a passing black SUV fired shots and he was hit in the left shoulder. He went to St. Mary's Hospital and was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was stabilized.
• A 19-year-old man was shot in the left hand in the 1700 block of West 62 nd Street in the West Englewood neighborhood about 7:35 p.m., police said. The man went in a private vehicle to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was in good condition. The man told police he was arguing with someone when the other person took out a gun.
• In the Morgan Park neighborhood, a 27-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 1600 block of West 119th Street about 5:45 p.m. The man went in a private vehicle to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The man told police he was shot when a vehicle pulled up next to the vehicle he was in and someone started shooting.
• In the Bronzeville neighborhood, a 27-year-old woman was shot and critically wounded about 5:40 p.m. in the 300 block of East 50th Street, police said. The woman was taken to Stroger Hospital.
• About 3:45 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot on Western Avenue just south of Madison Street in the Near West Side neighborhood, police said. The man was wounded in the foot and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
