13 killed in Juárez as violence continues

Thirteen people were killed in Juárez during the weekend, including four men who were found shot multiple times in a home, officials said.

The four victims were found in different rooms of a home near Diamante and Pehblenda streets at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The men were identified as Jose Francisco Rojas Escarcia, 27; Victor Hugo Cortes Gonzales, 30; Juan Daniel Valadez Garcia, 27; and Victor Manuel Salinas Quezada, 33.

Police said 21 shells were found in the home.

Also on Saturday, police said a 17- to 19-year-old woman was shot and killed. Her body was found about two kilometers from the Juárez Highway in an ejido, or communal farm. The case is being investigated by a special task force set up to investigate the slayings of women in Juárez. The victim, whose hands were tied behind her back, has not been identified.

Authorities reported they found the body of a 25- to 30-year-old man in an old commercial center about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Also Saturday, police found the body of a man near Antonio de la Torre and the Juárez Highway.

On Sunday, police reported four separate slayings.

At about 1:30 a.m. police said Jose Gonzalez Huizar, 18, was shot to death near Cartagena and Carlos Amaya streets. Police also said a man's body was found burned while firefighters were battling a fire in

a home about 1:45 a.m. near Globo and Horcasitas streets. Police found traces of blood in the home. The victim was not identified.
Also on Sunday, the body of a man, believed to be 35 to 40, was found with at least 11 gunshot wounds at about 4:30 a.m. near Mediterraneo and Atlas streets. No identification was made. Another man who appeared to have been beaten to death was found about 7 a.m. near Canutillo and Villa Ocampo streets. The victim was not identified.

Two others -- a man and woman -- were killed Friday and Saturday, officials said.

In other activities, Mexican federal government officials said they arrested three people on various charges including illegal possession of a weapon and having bullets used by the Mexican military and air force. The men were identified as Roman Eduardo Zuniga, Michael Galindo and Jesus Fernando Arreola Alderete.
