A body is found inside an apartment in Celebration.

CELEBRATION, Fla. -- A woman checking on a neighbor Monday morning discovered a body inside a Celebration apartment home, Osecola County sheriff's deputies said.

The body was found around 9:40 a.m. at an apartment in the 500 block of Water Street.

Detectives said they are investigating the death as a suspicious incident. They said this is the first-ever suspicious death investigation in the Celebration community.

Dawn Peraino said she would see the man who lived at the apartment every day while she worked at her office on Water Street in Celebration.

"I would see him sitting outback, reading a book, walking his dog or letting his white Chihuahua walk around. I said hello to him everyday," Peraino said.

Now neighbors are upset to learn a body was discovered at his apartment Monday morning. Peraino said a friend was supposed to be keeping his dog for the holiday and couldn't reach him over the weekend. But investigators with the Osceola County Sheriff's Office have not confirmed many details.

"An individual called and said she was checking on a neighbor and when she went into the apartment, she found an individual deceased. At this time, we're investigating this as a suspicious death," said Twis Lizasuain, Osceola County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

While everyone waits to get more information, Peraino said she and other neighbors are hoping there's not a killer lurking in their quiet community.

"Everyone knows everyone. It's just a small town feel and we're very upset," Peraino said.

Celebration is a small, family-oriented community that was planned and developed by Disney in 1994. Investigators said although the death is being investigated as suspicious, there's no cause for neighbors in Celebration to be alarmed.

"In this neighborhood it's a rare occurrence for the Celebration community, and we are working this as an isolated incident. We don't believe there's another individual out there that would be targeting other individuals in Celebration," Lizasuain said.

OMG! I've been to Celebration! When I was there I thought I was in some sort of "fantasy" town. I'd never seen anything quite like it before. I used to consider it one of those places you go to escape reality - kind of like Disneyland itself. Last time I was there was May of 2000.

Disney town sees death for 2nd time in a week

CELEBRATION, Fla. — The owner of a failed security business barricaded himself in his soon-to-be foreclosed home, shot at deputies and then killed himself in this well-groomed Central Florida town built by Disney.

The 14-hour standoff came just days after the town's first-ever homicide, unsettling residents who moved to the community for its safety and small-town values. Authorities said the two deaths were not connected.

Craig Foushee, 52, barricaded himself in his home Thursday for more than 14 hours, according to an Osceola County Sheriff's Office report. He shot at deputies several times, but they never returned fire because they couldn't get a clear shot. No deputies were injured.

Court records show Foushee was in the middle of a divorce, and it was apparent that his life was unraveling, neighbors said.

Early Friday, deputies deployed tear gas, entered the home and found Foushee dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On the unusually crisp winter morning, the smell of the tear gas hung in the air on the upscale cul-de-sac. All of the second floor windows — including the third-floor dormers — were either broken or had bullet holes the size of baseballs. At least one streetlight in the shape of a lantern appeared to have been shattered by gunfire.

"Just because this is Celebration doesn't mean everyone's perfect," said Eva Medved, who lived across the street from Foushee. "People die, people get divorced, people get in trouble."

Medved, who warned her two children not to get too close to the house for fear the lingering gas would harm them, said all of the neighborhood kids, including Foushee's children, played in the street and on everyone's porches.

"This kind of puts a damper on all of that," said Medved, who has lived in Celebration since the master-planned community's founding in 1996.

With 11,000 residents, Celebration was built by Disney as a walkable, family-friendly small town. Crime is unusual in the town, which also boasts some of the highest median incomes in the area.

Court records show that Foushee had been on a downward spiral for the past year.

His wife, Kimberly Foushee, filed a domestic violence petition last June, but the injunction was dismissed in August after a hearing. Kimberly Foushee had filed for divorce in September 2009, and the couple reached a mediation settlement agreement last month.

Foreclosure proceedings were initiated against Craig Foushee in 2009, and efforts to reach a mediation agreement with the bank were canceled in September. The records also show he filed for bankruptcy in April.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Twis Lizasuain said there was no connection between Foushee and Matteo Patrick Giovanditto, who was found slain in a condominium Tuesday.

Giovanditto lived alone with his Chihuahua and was killed over the long Thanksgiving weekend, authorities said. Neighbors hadn't seen him for days, so they filed a missing person's report, then went into his condo a day later and found him.

Details were still emerging in the second death, but state records list Foushee as the owner of a security business, Reliant Protection Group. Online searches show it was a security training and threat assessment company.

Online records from the Florida Division of Corporations showed that the company was dissolved in September of this year. Foushee also had ties to other companies, including a custom home and construction company that dissolved in 2006.

A Facebook profile for a Craig Foushee in Celebration, Fla., showed him describing his three daughters as "my treasures." In April, he posted that he "went from being married to single."

Photos also depict men at a firing range. One has the caption: "Dept. of Defense Pre-Deployment Tactical Training."

A LinkedIn profile said Foushee was a pilot for American Airlines for nearly 20 years and an Air Force pilot.

"He was just a really nice guy," said Simone Wynne, a family friend who placed a bouquet of flowers on Foushee's porch Friday morning. "He was well-known and respected. This was a tragedy that escalated."

'He got what he deserved': Axe-wielding homeless man murdered man 'who wanted sex' in Disney town

A homeless man has been charged with the murder of a 58-year old over Thanksgiving weekend in Celebration, Disney's small community in Florida.

David-Israel Murillo, 28, beat, strangled and attacked Matteo Giovanditto with an axe at the victim's home after a drunken fight.

There is speculation that Murillo attacked Mr Giovanditto after the older man, who he had got back in touch with after first meeting a year ago, attempted to have sex with him.

It is the first murder in Celebration, which was dreamed up in the 1990s and was named 'New Community of the Year' in 2001 by the Urban Land Institute.

Murillo told detectives he had been drinking with Mr Giovanditto - a former teacher who was known to help the homeless and transient - on November 24 when they got into a fight.

He claimed the he became angry and beat Mr Giovanditto unconscious with an axe he found in the closet.

'He got what he deserved,' Murillo said as he was escorted out of the local sheriff's office yesterday.

When asked if Mr Giovanditto had tried to have sex with him, Murillo told reporters, '[He] tried to, and I believe he tried to put something in my drink.

'Something came over me and I felt so mad that he did that. But you can't justify that.'

Murillo also told reporters that he had gone to the apartment because Mr Giovanditto had offered him a job, although he didn't elaborate.
Police said Murillo was identified as a person of interest because his photo was found on Mr Giovanditto's computer and his fingerprints were found in his flat.

He was brought in for questioning on Saturday after investigators found out he tried to sell coins owned by the victim.

Detectives said they found Mr Giovanditto's iPad, cash and collectable coins at a wooded homeless camp where Murillo was living.

Neighbours found him dead on his kitchen floor, covered by a blanket, several days after his death. He lived alone in a condo with his chihuahua Lucy.

It's been a tough time for Celebration, as later that same week Craig Foushee, 52, barricaded himself in a home for more than 14 hours and shot at deputies several times.

Police never returned fire because they were unable to acquire a target and later found Foushee had shot himself. It was the first suicide in the small community.

Disney relinquished control of Celebration several years ago, though the town of 11,000 retains theme park-like flourishes.
