Official: 1 of 5 child hostages freed in Harvey

HARVEY, Ill. (AP) — A city spokesman says one of the five children who are being held hostage at a home in the south suburbs of Chicago has been released.

Authorities are negotiating with two men barricaded inside the home in Harvey, Illinois. One woman is also among the hostages.

Harvey spokesman Sean Howard would not say whether the suspects know the hostages or whether the hostages are related
Officials say two police officers were wounded by gunfire Tuesday afternoon in the incident after responding to a call about a burglary.

Howard says that Darnell Keel, an 18-year veteran of the police force, is in stable condition at a hospital with a broken arm after an exchange of gunfire. A second officer suffered a graze wound to an arm.

An armored vehicle and officers in body armor with high-powered rifles can be seen in the neighborhood. Howard says 26 law enforcement agencies are assisting.
