Three more parents have been charged with fraudulently enrolling their children in Oldham County Schools as the district continues the crackdown it began in August.

Theft-by-deception charges were filed Tuesday against Cheryl and Jim McGuire, and Dawne Grigsby, according to Oldham District Court records.
Jim McGuire, 44, wasn’t served with the criminal complaint until Wednesday evening, and Cheryl McGuire, 43, and Dawne Grigsby had yet to be served Thursday afternoon, according to the Oldham County Attorney’s Office.
According to the criminal complaints, the McGuires enrolled their son at Crestwood Elementary in October 2009, using Jim McGuire’s Ballardsville address. But, according to the complaint, their son’s primary address is with Cheryl McGuire, who lives off Poplar Level Road in Louisville.
Grigsby is accused of enrolling her two children at Buckner Alternative High School and Oldham County Middle School using her mother’s La Grange address, but Grigsby lives in Shelby County, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint said the children live with Grigsby or their father, who has a Henry County address.
All three parents are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 23 at 9 a.m. in Oldham district court.
Theft by deception, a felony, is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $1,000 to $10,000.
School officials say that parents who fraudulently send their children to Oldham schools cost the district and local taxpayers $18.63 per day.
Oldham school officials began taking illegal enrollment more seriously two years ago because there were so many reports of alleged offenders.
Before August school officials would try to track down and reason with parents suspected of wrongly enrolling their students in Oldham, but the officials sought the help of the county attorney’s office this fall to enforce stronger penalties.
There are more than 40 families, with more than 60 children, currently being investigated by the district, according to Dan Orman, assistant superintendent of student services for the district.
Three other people have pleaded not guilty to similar charges this fall.
On Aug. 26, Charles M. Lauron was charged with fraudulently enrolling his son in Oldham County Schools for the past eight years, despite living in Lyndon.
A preliminary hearing for Lauron is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 2.
Donna Claggett also was charged with theft by deception in that case after school officials said she allowed Lauron to use her Goshen address. She has denied signing an affidavit stating Lauron’s son lived in her home and has said she didn’t even know her address was being used.
During her preliminary hearing Wednesday morning, a judge found probable cause to send the case to a grand jury.
John Buehner was charged with theft by deception Sept. 29 for allegedly enrolling his son in Oldham County Middle School by using the address of a La Grange rental home. School officials say he lives near Louisville International Airport.
Buehner is due back in court at 1 p.m. Nov. 2 for a preliminary hearing.
