Man arrested at border on L.A. homicide warrant

SAN DIEGO : A man wanted on a homicide warrant out of Los Angeles was arrested last week at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, the fourth such apprehension in a week, federal authorities said.

Oscar Nava Salas, 27, was identified through a fingerprint database, said Angelica de Cima, spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Salas, a U.S. citizen, was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Thursday when he entered the San Ysidro border crossing as a passenger in a Ford Explorer headed into the United States. He was accompanied by five family members, all U.S. citizens, De Cima said. They were all allowed to proceed.

Salas was wanted on a $2 million felony warrant issued by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Last weekend, three other people wanted on homicide warrants were apprehended at the border in separate incidents, De Cima said. Two were from Los Angeles and one was from Stockton.
