99% of Costa Rica’s Electricity Came from Renewable Energy in 2015

99% of Costa Rica’s Electricity Came from Renewable Energy in 2015
    Jake Anderson December 28, 2015

Earlier this year, Anti-Media reported on Costa Rica’s efforts to become independent of fossil fuels and power itself entirely from renewable energy. The country’s plans included utilizing the region’s plentiful rainfall to power impressive new hydroelectric infrastructure. They also planned to use geothermal sources, wind, biomass, and solar energy.

A new year-end report by Treehugger.com confirms Costa Rica achieved an incredible 99 percent renewable energy production rate in 2015. In fact, the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), the country’s publicly-owned electricity provider, issued a statement claiming the nation was completely fossil fuel-free for an astounding 285 days of the year.

Costa Rica reached the 99 percent renewable energy mark with the aforementioned mixture of hydroelectric plants, which provide 80 percent of the country’s energy, with wind, biomass, and solar power. The country’s large river system and heavy rainfall also aided the efforts, in spite of the fact 2015 was a particularly dry year.

Costa Rica still has huge goals beyond just aiming for a 100 percent carbon neutral status by the year 2021. Ultimately, according to ICE, Costa Rica wants to shift its transportation industry away from fossil fuels, and officials also want to add new geothermal sources, which currently provide 15 percent of the nation’s energy.
ICE electricity division chief, Luis Pacheco, said,

“[Costa Rica is] closing 2015 with renewable electricity milestones that have put us in the global spotlight.”

He predicted an even more renewable-friendly 2016, as rainfall will likely be heavier and a new $2.3 billion hydroelectric plant will come online.

Like Paraguay, Colombia, Brazil, and many other Latin American countries, Costa Rica continues to lead the way in hydroelectric and renewable energy. Elsewhere, countries like Denmark, Sweden, Scotland, and Finland are showing a wide variety of strategies can be employed to wean industrialized nations off fossil fuels, which continue to pollute the environment with carbon emissions and waste.

It is strange the ability to produce modern modalities that function efficiently yet their people flee to our border for asylum due to - what are their claims, killing, drug cartels. These countries want to be rid of their overpopulation problem & their criminals too - expensive to house.

I'm all for protecting the environment and I applaud Costa Rica on their accomplishment. However, in all fairness, Costa Rica only has a population of 5 million while we have a population of 321 million. We are the 3rd most populated country in the world. China with 1.4 billion is the most populated and India is 2nd with 1.28 billion.

The story relates to their ability to progress to modern technology (while we have not been allowed to). Someone initiated and put in operation a very progressive energy system.

YET, they come here seeking asylum by the tens of thousands as if they have no gov't, no order at all in their countries. And they are taken into our country to reproduce on welfare with healthcare, schooling, sans vaccines, bringing diseases, invasive larvae, bed bugs, deadly Chagas bug etc.

They're only sending us the "bad ones". Only bad people leave their own country to sneak into another one. These illegal aliens are con men, con women, most of them running drugs which is why the cartels send them here to begin with and pay for their smuggling fees.

It's all a con game to steal our money and occupy our country.

These countries have found a way to export their poverty and make money on it through remittances. The sad truth is that these countries are receiving foreign aid from the US taxpayer in addition to paying for all of the medical for their citizens through MEDICAID. Our government not only allows it, they encourage it through programs like the BRIDGE Initiative.

It is the 2000 UN Agenda 21 plan for the redistribution of wealth from "rich" Western countries to countries that have wallowed in Socialism and corruption for decades and our politicians in Washington DC have signed on to it. Washington DC does not seem to care about the collateral damage to the people of this country that built it.

This article doesn't discuss those issues, it touts the Green energy successes of the same countries that rape us financially.

If they are getting everything they need already, they have no need to be seeking asylum at our border nor to be taken in and placed around our country. They are already being compensated - therefore no need to grant asylum. All you hear is the sob stories of why they are leaving and why this article displaying a progressive gov't is eye opening and a contradiction to their so called plight.

Overpopulation again, allow the ignorance to continue and then push the people to the USA, muslims the same. And remittances are a big part.

Africa will not take back thousands of illegals from EU because money sent back home is a large part of their economy the leaders want to continue receiving. They said do not land any planes here with our natives, you will be heavily fined.

Look at the astonishing amount of money the mexicans send back to their country from jobs they have stolen here. Monies leaving, not being used in our economy to support our businesses.

A large portion of that money is earned in cash and only honest people that pay payroll taxes are footing the bill. I read the UN documents several years ago and it struck me that they actually said that the "migrants" would earn "under the table". Look at the World Bank and Bank of America that are cashing in, they get the fees from the remittances so the more in remittance, the more money they make and they really don't care where it came from.
