Al Sharpton :The American Public Voted for Socialism

Al Sharpton: 'The American Public Overwhelmingly Voted for Socialism When They Elected President Obama'

Some of the American people probably thought they were voting for hope and change when they voted for President Barack Obama on Nov. 4, 2008. But according to Rev. Al Sharpton, they were voting for socialism.

Sharpton, the founder of the National Action Network and talk radio host told Fox News on March 21, during their special coverage of the House of Representatives' passage of health care reform legislation, this victory for President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would begin "transforming" the country.

"I think that the president and Nancy Pelosi get credit," Sharpton said. "I think this began the transforming of the country the way the president had promised. This is what he ran on."

And if that transformation is socialism, then so be it, he explained. That is what the American public "overwhelmingly" voted for.

"First of all, then we have to say the American public overwhelmingly voted for socialism when they elected President Obama," Sharpton said. "Let's not act as though the president didn't tell the American people - the president offered the American people health reform when he ran. He was overwhelmingly elected running on that and he has delivered what he promised."

Despite polling showing otherwise leading up to the momentous occasion of the vote on health care reform, the claim this goes against the wishes of the American people is false based on the 2008 presidential election.

"I don't understand Republicans saying this is against the will of the American people," Sharpton said. "They voted for President Obama who said this was going to be one of the first things he would do and he has done the first hurdle of that tonight. So I think the American people was very loud and clear. This was not some concept the president introduced after he won. He ran on this and the American people won tonight because they got finally something from a president they voted for."

He was not "overwhelmingly" voted in, I read somewhere this election had the lowest turnout in numbers of voters.

Eight more months and the clock is ticking. November can't come soon enough.

It was not that overwhelming of a win. What Al Sharpton fails to mention is that more blacks went out to vote. I know people who worked the election in Miami Dade County and they told me that many never voted before and only voted for the president and did not even know that local and county officials were being elected at the same time. If you drove by where that had early voting and saw the line ups you would have seen white people and latinos as the minority. In fact it was odd seeing so few latinos as they are the majority in many areas in South Florida especially Cubans.

While it WAS clear to Americans "in the know" politically - look at the average person who voted for Barackula. Young people, those who have never voted before, the needy underclass, illegals....oh and those so blinded by thier rage at Bush that they didn't care who it was as long as it was not him.

I'm sure most, if not all, of these people are totally unaware of Soros, the Tri Lateral Commission, Bilderburgs and the NWO agenda!

Well...unfortunately Al Sharpton is giving those who voted for Obama way too much credit credit. Most of them wouldn't know what socialism was if it hit them upside the head.

Besides, he never had to worry about that, as he had most of the kool aid drinkers at hope and change. These people were so enamored with Obama and the chance to elect the first black president, that it didn't matter to them what this marxist was going to do policy wise.

Also, they were so filled with venom regarding Bush, they simply would not listen to anyone who tried to warn them about Obama. Those who even dared to question Obama and his idology were deemed racists and xenophobes. Debate over! Sound familiar?

So while I do not completely agree with Sharpton on this, his argument does have some merit. There are those who understood what Obama was about and voted for him anyway. But I suspect the vast majority that voted for Obama were simply ignorant of how dangerous this guy was to the principles this country was founded upon.
