Archbishops scold Pelosi, Biden on abortion

Archbishop of Washington Chides Pelosi; Denver Archbishop Warns Biden to Skip Communion

    By Bill Sammon

Irked by pro-choice Democrats who tout their Catholicism, the archbishop of Washington is chiding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for misstating church history and the archbishop of Denver is warning vice presidential hopeful Joe Biden not to take Communion.

The unusual public rebukes come as both Pelosi and Biden are talking up their faith in a bid for swing voters as Democrats stage their national convention in Denver. In an interview Sunday, Pelosi claimed to be an expert on the church’s abortion stance.

“As an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time,â€

Are there "regional" versions of Catholicism? I mean apparently in Pelosi's "region" abortion is OK , but how does they get away with it and still remain within the fold??

Yeah, I guess that is why Bush picked up a chunk of the hispanic vote both times. But make no mistake, immigrants will vote Democratic. Even historic immigrants from European catholic countries have traditionally favored Dems. Black Americans are mostly pro-life (I think), but they overwhelmingly vote for Dems.

None of this matters anyway. Neither party is interested in changing abortion law.

They vote democrat because of that long-held myth that the dems care about the "little" person and they promise them all kind of goodies which they never deliver on. One look at Pelosi and you can tell she couldn't care less about "little" people. Obama's half-brother is living in a hut on a dollar a month....you think he cares?? He also promised to help a school that they named after him. It's been 2 years and Obama hasn't sent them a cent!!

This is definitely true, because the Dems are funded by the same global corporatists that fund the GOP......however the very same argument can be applied to the Reps on the abortion issue. For almost three decades they have made promises to socially conservative Christians, and never delivered. This party has absolutely no precident for being the party of "life." For the 16 years (and almost certainly longer) that preceded the "Moral Majority" the Republican Party nominated nothing but pro-choice candidates. Observe:

    1960 -- Nixon, pro-choice

    1964 -- Goldwater, pro-choice

    1968 -- Nixon, pro-choice

    1972 -- Nixon, pro-choice

    1976 -- Ford, pro-choice

All of this was from things I heard them directly say, or what was written in bios. This is not a "pro-life" party, it never has been. It was seen as advantageous to hoodwink middle-America in 1980 to draw from the ranks of the Dems by beating the pro-life drum. 28 years later (twenty of which "pro-life republicans" occupied the Oval Office) absolutely nothing has changed. They got votes from social conservatives and did absolutley nothing for them. However, they did plenty for corporate America, which was always the ultimate objective.

Its hard to sell middle-America on doing nothing but helping the most powerful CEOs in the nation, so they used emotionally charged socially conservative, and empty rhetoric to get middle and working class votes.

    Its all a sham.
