Armed restaurant patron kills would-be robber at Detroit Coney Island

November 08, 2012

It was about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday when Detroit police say two armed men attempted to rob a Detroit restaurant.

But an armed customer of Adi Coney Island, 6171 Michigan, who is permitted to carry a concealed firearm, turned the tables on the would-be crooks.

Gunfire erupted and bullets were exchanged. When the smoke cleared, one of the 29-year-old robbers had endured a fatal gunshot wound and later died.

The 51-year-old customer suffered a gunshot wound but did not die of his injuries, according to a release issued by Detroit police Thursday.

Another 46-year-old customer was grazed by one of the bullets.

Police said the suspected robber's accomplice, wearing an orange sweater and black mask, fled on foot.

A worker at the restaurant when contacted Thursday said there was no one who witnessed the incident available to talk.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-2260 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
