The Battle For Baghdad Begins, 100 Marines Surround Embassy

The battle for Baghdad begins as mortars are falling on the airport runway. 100 US Marines have arrived surrounding the US Embassy as the US plans to evacuate the remaining staff.
Many news sources are reporting that the mortar fire rocked the airport in what would be day break in Baghdad. Right before they cut the internet, sources were caught tweeting by the Gateway Pundit.

Further reports by the Times and USA Today confirm that the battle has reached Baghdad and the US plans to evacuate as many staff as they can.
ERBIL, Iraq — The American Embassy in Baghdad plans to evacuate a substantial number of its personnel this week in the face of a militant advance that rapidly swept from the north toward the capital, the State Department announced on Sunday.
The embassy, a beige fortress on the banks of the Tigris River within the heavily secured Green Zone, where Iraqi government buildings are also situated, has the largest staff of any United States Embassy.
The exact number of people being evacuated from Baghdad — the American government prefers to say they are being “relocated” — was not disclosed. But the embassy will remain open, and most of its staff will remain, according to the State Department. ~New York Times
The embassy will remain fully operational with “some additional U.S. government security personnel,” the State Department said. The embassy, inside the Green Zone near the Tigris River, employs thousands of people, some local hires and others from the United States.
The development came as photos posted on a militant website show what look to be masked fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant loading captives onto flatbed trucks before forcing them to lie face-down in a shallow ditch with their arms tied behind their backs. The bodies of the captives are then shown, soaked in blood after being shot.
The Associated Press said the images were verified and were consistent with its reporting. Iraq’s top military spokesman, Lt. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, confirmed the authenticity of the photos Sunday and said he was aware of cases of mass murder of Iraqi soldiers.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki condemned and denounced as “horrifying” a claim by ISIL that it has massacred 1,700 Shia air force recruits in Tikrit. She called the claim “a true depiction of the bloodlust that these terrorists represent.” ~USA Today
This is the end of the Iraq we know. Get ready for Iran 2.0 with the embassy. We have ironically positioned the USS H.W. Bush off the coast but so far no shots fired from American vessels to cover the retreat.
We only need to look at the path to the capital of Iraq to see what is in store for our people if we don’t get them out. God help us.
