Biker gangs welcome in Palm Springs




PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) -- Prominent outlaw motorcycle gangs are heading for Palm Springs this fall despite warnings from the police chief that there's potential for violence.

The City Council voted 3-2 to allow the American Heat Palm Springs Motorcycle Weekend event Oct. 12-14 downtown even though police Chief David Dominguez senses trouble.

The Mongols and Vagos motorcycle clubs, identified by the California Department of Justice as outlaw motorcycle gangs, are among those expected to attend.

Dominguez says "they are bitter enemies" and "that's when we have the potential for violence."

The City Council also voted to suspend the city's noise ordinance that weekend and to spend up to $35,000 for public safety, traffic, trash and other costs associated with the biker event.

Mayor Steve Pougnet concedes there's a potential for violence, but he says the city has done a good job policing the event in the past.

What? Suspend the "noise ordinance for the weekend." What kind of nuts are these. What you wanna bet these guys are out of the council next time or a recall is started?

The growth at any price crowd loves people shopping, buying, using, etc, so what if it is bad for the people of the community and cost taxpayers. The only thing that matters is profit. The same people want anyone and everyone to move close enough to use their businesses, even illegal aliens.

I was at River Run last month in Laughlin NV, there were few problems
and thousands of bikers. Thay spent a ton of money.
