BREAKING:Federal CBP Agent Shot Outside Florida Post Office

    BREAKING

    Tuesday, August 05, 2008

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — A federal agent was shot outside a Pembroke Pines post office Tuesday and authorities say the shooter is on the run.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection special agent is in critical condition at Memorial Regional Hospital, police spokesman Brian Davis said.

The victim and another man got into some sort of fight Tuesday morning in the parking lot, according to reports. The elderly man then fired at least one shot, striking the victim.

    The gunman then took off.

The victim, who was not identified, was reportedly with his daughter when the shooting occurred.

Police and paramedics have surrounded the building. Investigators are interviewing postal employees and customers in the parking lot.

The suspect is a white male, possibly hispanic, 45-55 years old with a full head of grey hair and wearing a green plaid short-sleeve shirt. They are also looking for a grey/green late model 4-door Chrysler.

I'll reserve judgment until the report is public, but one can only imagine as to the nature of the exchange that took place.

It's bad enough they are exposed to all sorts of dangerous conditions and people while on the job, but while off the job or just moving around public casually? The violence is totally indefensible.

    This really makes me mad

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. -- A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent has died after he was shot outside a Pembroke Pines post office Tuesday morning, police said.

The shooting happened at the South Florida Mail Processing Center located at Dykes Road and Pines Boulevard.

According to police, the victim and another man got into a fight. That's when the gunman fired a shot and fled the scene.

The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition, according to police spokesman Brian Davis. He died a short time later.

No motive has been released, but the victim's daughter was reportedly with him when the shooting occurred, so it does not appear that he was on duty at the time.

Police are searching for a silver or light-colored Chrysler 300 driven by a light-skinned man in his 40s or 50s. According to witnesses, the man was wearing a plaid shirt.

    This is a horrible story!

This is a horrible story! I pray the agent makes a full recovery! And that he and his family sue the state of Florida and all political leaders in that state that voted pro-amnesty and have invited the illegals into the area. I also think the illegals employer should be held legally accountable because the illegal wouldn't have been in that place to shoot the agent if the illegals employer didn't give him a job.

    Quick review:

Take the illegal to court.....he needs to do jail time and deportation
Take ALL pro-illegal amnesty seeking politicians in the state of Fla to task legally...if it wern't for them this would not have happened.
Sue the employer - with out a job this illegal wouldn't have been able to comitt the crime.

All we need is one case to set a precedent...the legal community would understand the importance and we would be taking a stand on behalf of our precious American citizens..instead of fretting over laws to protect illegals.

I'm curious to see what Isabel Garcia has to say about this. Did she really think about the message she was sending when she was parading the effigy of Sheriff Joe's head for the TV cameras? Some people would take it to mean it was open season on law enforcement officials. Doubt me? How many law enforcement officials have died at the hands of illegal aliens and their supporters since her stunt?

I don't know the identity of the CBP official or his murderer. I don't know if the murderer knew the the victim was a CBP official nor the reason for killing him. Either way, it was senseless!

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent shot in a Pembroke Pines post office parking lot Tuesday morning has died, according to local and federal authorities.

The agent died at Memorial Regional Hospital's trauma center less than three hours after an altercation with a middle-age man in the parking lot ended in gunfire.

The shooter fled in a dark-colored Chrysler 300 and remains at large.

Pembroke Pines police have not released the name of the victim, but FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela confirmed the shooting victim was a Customs and Border Protection agent.

''It's something we're looking into,'' Orihuela said, adding that the agent was off duty. She had no more details.

Just after noon, roughly 200 federal and local agents gathered in the post office's parking lot, about to launch a massive dragnet in search of the shooter, described as in his mid-40s to mid-50s with a full head of gray hair and wearing a short-sleeve green, plaid shirt.

''We're going to saturate the area,'' said Sgt. Bryan Davis, a Pembroke Pines police spokesman. ``We're going to turn over every rock.''

Investigators are still trying to piece together what led to the shooting, Davis said, but here is what is known:

Just before 9 a.m., the shooter and his victim, a special agent who works out of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force office, got into some sort of argument in the parking lot of the South Florida Mail Processing Center, 16000 Pines Blvd.

The fight escalated, and the middle-age man fired at least one shot, striking the federal agent -- likely in the head.

''We don't know what happened,'' Davis said. ``This just appears to be some type of altercation in the parking lot.''

The shooter then sped off east on Pines Boulevard, leaving the agent bleeding in front of his car -- another Chrysler 300. The shooting did not involve any postal employees.

Luis, a customer at the post office who declined to give his last name, said he was driving out of the lot when he heard a single shot ring out.

'Then I heard a woman screaming, `Somebody just got shot!' '' the witness said.

Investigators later interviewed postal employees and customers in the parking lot.

The post office's main lobby has been closed as authorities collect evidence, but the part of the facility where mail is sorted remains operational.

Miami Herald staff reporters Walter Michot, David Ovalle and Jay Weaver contributed to this report.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (WSVN) -- According to police, a federal agent has died after a man shot him in the parking lot of a South Florida post office.

Authorities are investigating the scene of the shooting that occurred in the area of Dykes and Pines Boulevard Tuesday morning. Officials said a middle-aged man shot the special agent with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force in the head. "We do know that this just appears to be some type of altercation in the parking lot. It does not involve any postal employees or any employees here at the center," said St. Bryan Davis of the Pembroke Pines Police Department.

Witnesses said the agent was at the post office with his daughter when the suspect approached him. "I saw the daughter frantic, hysterical, and then, I saw the victim laying on the ground," said Janice Chin.

About 200 agents are searching for the gunman. "The suspect information that we did get was a middle-aged man, possibly 45 to 55 years of age, driving a dark green or gray Chrysler 300," said Davis.

Authorities pulled over several vehicles in an effort to find the suspect.

Paramedics transported the agent to Memorial Regional Hospital where he later died.

Police describe the suspect as a white male with a full head of hair, wearing a green-colored plaid shirt.
