California bracing for another heat wave
California bracing for heat wave
Hot temps worry fire officials
POSTED: 10:01 AM PDT May 11, 2014

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -(AP) - Mother Nature is giving the greater Los Angeles area a hot and gusty gift this Mother's Day.
And the weather is just a preview of what forecasters say to expect across California in coming days.
Winds in coastal mountains near Los Angeles reached as high as 73 mph early Sunday, while morning brought sunny skies with projected high temperatures in the 80s.
It all adds up to "red flag" fire danger, with authorities warning that any wild land flames would quickly spread out of control.
Across California, temperatures are projected to increase through midweek, when they should top 100 degrees in inland areas already parched by drought.

. . . San Jose could see its record high of 94 degrees for May 14 -- set in 1905 -- broken with a top temperature of 96 expected Wednesday, Henderson said.
A record high of 89 also is expected in San Francisco; that would break a record for that date set in 1922.And that won't even be the expected regional high:
Forecasts have Gilroy breaking triple digits with a high of 101, Henderson said. Triple-digit temperatures also are expected in King City and Hollister, with a high of 99 in both Livermore and Antioch.
If seeking relief is in your plans, cooling centers may be opened on unusually hot days, typically community centers, fairgrounds or public buildings like libraries, according to PG&E.
Residents can also head for the coast, where temperatures are expected to be about 15 degrees lower: 85 in Half Moon Bay and 89 in Monterey. At Point Reyes in Marin County, the high Wednesday will be 81 -- "pretty darn hot for there," Henderson said . . .

2014 Coldest Year On Record So Far In USA
http://www.humanevents.com/2014/05/1...r-ever-so-far/
"This year has been the coldest year in history through May 6, according to the network of nationwide thermometers monitored by the U.S. Historical Climatology Network. Summer officially arrives later this month, and it better be a warm one if the United States is to avoid setting a new record for its coldest year ever.
Southeastern Florida and the U.S. Southwest are the only regions with above-average temperatures so far this year. The Upper Midwest and the Great Lakes region are experiencing the coldest departures from average temperatures.
Assertions that warming temperatures in the United States are causing a host of problems are soundly contradicted by the objective temperature data. The U.S. Historical Climatology Network thermometers, which have been measuring U.S. temperatures since the 1890s, show no long-term trend in U.S. temperatures."alipac.us; americanpolicy.org; conservativeusa.org; eagleforum.org; gunowners.org; jbs.org; oathkeepers.org; saf.org
