California woman spotted pushing trashcan of human body parts down the street arrested for homicide

A California woman caught wheeling a trashcan full of body parts was arrested on Monday on charges of homicide.

Carmen Montenegro, 51, of San Bernardino, Calif. was spotted with the macabre container around 2:30 in the afternoon and nabbed by police who were tipped off to her bizarre activities.

"Officers stopped her leaving the location and in the trashcan we found human remains," Detective Jeff Crittenden told KTLA-TV.

The contents of the trashcan are being investigated by the coroner's office, but police believe it is a homicide and that there is only one body.

They are still working to clarify the connection between the woman and the remains and to identify the victim.

Crittenden told reporters he did not have much information on Montenegro, but said she is a relative of the homeowner whose house she was spotted wheeling the body away from.

One neighborhood resident's daughter told a KTLA-TV reporter she is Montenegro's cousin, and that the woman came to the home for help disposing the body.

Other residents said Montenegro's mother lives in the home, and that Montenegro herself lived there sporadically for over a decade.

The body is believed to have been dug up from the yard of the house where Montenegro was first spotted, according to police

ONTARIO, Calif. (AP) — A woman is under investigation for murder after witnesses reported to police that she was pushing a foul-smelling trash can down the street, which led to the discovery of a man’s body parts in the barrel and what appeared to be bodily fluids at a nearby house, authorities said.

Carmen Montenegro, 51, of San Bernardino, was arrested Sunday after police found the garbage can filled with the remains, Ontario police Detective Jeff Crittenden said Tuesday.

Authorities have not yet identified the man, how he died, when he died, where he died or the relationship between him and Montenegro. Investigators were withholding information about which body parts were in the trash can, a 30-gallon plastic container, and which ones are missing, Crittenden said.

Montenegro, who listed her occupation as a clerk on police documents, has apparently lived on and off over the years in the house, which is owned by a family member, he said.

Investigators spent Monday excavating property around the place. A hole was found in the backyard and what may have been body fluids were detected, but Crittenden would not say if a grave or additional body parts were found.

The house is about 200 yards from where Montenegro was pushing the can. Ontario is in San Bernardino County about 40 miles east of Los Angeles.

Neighbors started calling around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Crittenden said he had heard reports that Montenegro asked some neighbors for help disposing of the body, but the only statements he had seen from witnesses who called 911 were from people who had been alerted by the smell.

He said no other suspect was being sought but added: “We can’t eliminate other people. We have to figure out the identity of the victim and figure out what kind of relationship the suspect had to the victim.â€

USUALLY a woman of any ethnic background is unlikely to have anything to do with this sort of crime....how can a woman be SO cold to do this?

Maybe he was a abusive husband/boy friend . I agree women usually kill because of fear and/or abuse. Remember the movie "Burning Bed" ?

Oh yeah.... there's always the exception! (not to offend any good guys out there!!!) But I've been seeing alot of this sort of thing lately that wasn't the exception-like what was the deal on buying some poor live pig from a farmer, and instead of killing it humanely to eat it or having it as a family pet, the woman and her daughter sicced the family's dogs on it until it died....to torture it to death...then they put it on Facebook!!! This was a mother and daughter who apparently are really sick in the head!

​For most of us, if we even bother accepting our mother's friend request of Facebook we keep her under strict privacy control. Very few of us develop such close Facebook bonds with our mothers that we decide posting a video of our two dogs killing a pig on our pages is a good idea. Then again, very few us of take videos of our dogs killing pigs with our mothers. Most of us aren't quite as twisted as Janice Kay and Ashley Ann Ramirez of Vero Beach, Florida.

The mother-daughter duo have been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after they put a graphic video online.

The two women duct tapped the snout of a pig, let it lose in their backyard and then encouraged their two dogs to attack it. They recorded it all, and the video shows both Janice, 55, and Anna, 21, cheering on the viscous attack.

As the two large dog mutilated the dogs face and broke it legs the women laughed.

One of their connections on Facebook saw the video an alerted the Indian River County Sheriff's Office. The officer then had to subpoena Facebook in order to get the womens' address.

There's no reports as to what eventually happened to the pig.

Did I miss something? I can't find anywhere in the artcle identifying the lady as an illegal immigrant. Maybe I just missed it.

Woman kills ex-boyfriend, dumps body in trash

Police have arrested the son and daughter of a Southern California woman who was charged with murder after she was seen hauling a trash can containing body parts down a neighbourhood street.


Daniel Ortiz, 25, and Chanel Alicia Ortiz were stopped in Rancho Cucamonga and arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of helping their mother dispose of the remains of her ex-boyfriend, according to Ontario police.

Investigators were still trying to determine whether they might have been involved in the killing, Detective Jeff Crittenden said.

Carmen Montenegro, 51, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to a charge of first-degree murder.

Montenegro remained jailed on Thursday on $1 million bail.

Montenegro’s public defender, Rebecca Taft, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Her children also remained jailed and it was not immediately clear whether they had obtained lawyers.

Montenegro had a criminal history under the name Carmen Montelongo, Crittenden said. He did not have details.

Montenegro was arrested on Sunday after witnesses said she wheeled a trash can containing body parts down a street in Ontario, which is 64 kilometers east of downtown Los Angeles.

Investigators said the remains were those of 63-year-old Samuel Wiggins Jr. Relatives reported him missing on May 1.

Investigators suspect Wiggins was killed at his home, and that parts of his body were buried at a residence in Ontario last month and then dug up.

A family member of Montenegro’s, Matthew Bell, told the San Bernardino Sun that he saw Montenegro in a hole in the backyard of his grandmother’s house on Sunday. He said he also saw her throw body parts in the trash can and that she offered him $5,000 to help dispose of the remains.

Bell said he instead went to call police and that Montenegro followed him with the trash can, still pleading for help.

She was arrested about 200 yards (meters) from the home.

No information was released on how Wiggins was killed.
