Cornyn: Will Sotomayor Represent 'All of Us'?

Cornyn: Will Sotomayor Represent 'All of Us'?

    Thursday, June 18, 2009 1:40 PM

WASHINGTON -- A GOP senator says Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor (SOHN'-yuh soh-toh-my-YOR') must tell Americans whether she wants to be a justice "for all of us, or just for some of us."

Texas Republican John Cornyn says Sotomayor has to explain during upcoming confirmation hearings whether she believes in colorblind justice.

He cited a 2001 speech in which the federal appeals court judge said she hoped a "wise Latina" would usually reach better decisions than a white male without similar experiences.

Cornyn said he also wants to press Sotomayor about past decisions relating to gun rights, property rights and discrimination.

Hearings are scheduled to begin July 13.

She doesn't believe in justice, she is too self-centered.
