The load selected for this contract is a 135-grain, hollow point designed for the office of Field Operations of Customs and Border Protection. It will fall under the Winchester Ranger line.

and No DHS is a seperate contract from the military but you wouldnt know it from the

    1. Size of the bullet 40-Cal. that can take down an Elephant
    2. 135-grain, hollow point designed to mushroom upon impact for maximum damage
    3. 200 million rounds - who are they expecting to fight... an army
    4. Why does Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) need this kind of fire power ... do they expend that amount of rounds on a yearly basis
    5. 200 million rounds over 5 years come out to 40 million rounds a year; assuming that DHS was completely out of bullets from this day forward.
    6. This is really going to put a hurting on rounds sold to the public from a shortage of shell casings

as a foot note: I thought Napolitano, Reid, Pelosi and Obama surrendered on the Southern border with a HUGE white Flag ..... and if thats the case ... why all the bean slingers

    just some thoughts ....

Hollow point bullets have been outlawed by the geneva conventions because the bullets mushroom to inflict severe damage

its the same thing for mercury tipping bullets and filing the bullets to cause them to have a grenade effect upon impact

Hollow point bullets is not what you use for target practice .. they are too expensive so my first thought is they are meant for people

so that takes us back to the Geneva Convention...... soooooooo whats up DHS

Maybe they are going to use ICE on us? Ya' know if the people get insensed to the point of enough is enough. God help us either way.

Unless they mean to use them on the drug cartels. They are not considered military combatants, just outlaws.

a weapons expert for the last 6 years commented; I was in the Army. That being said, there is something everyone is overlooking here. 135gn, vs 165gn ammo, is destined for .40 cal sub-machine guns, and gives them a little more range and speed than a pistol. Those guns, vs pistols are for room (house) clearing.

You never stress pistol practice/profficiency when headed to combat. In combat, when in pistol range, it is too late. But if you want to clear a building, to maybe confiscate weapons, you would want a .40 MP 5 . I would like to know how many .40 cal sub-machine guns our govt has procured.

Like the old Thompson 45 machine gun that was so popular with the mobsters back in the prohibition era. Not a hot load are big cartridge, but the round being almost 1/2 inch in diameter, if it hit anything or anybody, it took them down. But why the hollowpoint round? Do they want to kill that many people?

So it is mainly for short range fighting house to house, room to room. Reminds me of what was seen on the Eastern Front in WWII between the Soviets and the Germans. Especially places like Stalingrad.

Like I said God Help Us.

    USBP Weapons, Part 1

The United States Border Patrol is the single most dangerous job in US federal law enforcement anywhere in the world.

Certainly, each Border Patrol Agent in the field must have the ability to protect himself and others. Most Agents are on duty alone and often in remote and dark border country far from any backup or support. They must be armed. The United States Border Patrol Agent is usually armed only with a pistol.

By the way, it has been found that the best marksmen are not necessarily the best Agents in the field. It has also been found that those with a solid early association with guns often make the best field Agents.

There is nothing mysterious or powerful about a pistol. Those four pounds of steel, powder, copper, brass, and lead are simply a tool. The Border Patrol Agent is issued that tool. The tool is used to "stop someone" from causing harm to others.

At present the US Border Patrol Agents are issued the Berretta 96D "Brigadier" pistol. It can contain as many as 12 rounds of ammunition (11 in the magazine and one in the chamber). The "96" is essentially an older Berretta model (the 92) with some modifications.

The Berretta 96D is what is called a double action pistol. This means that as you squeeze the trigger the hammer is also moved rearward and at some point the hammer will finally fall and the weapon will fire. A single action pistol would require that you manually pull the hammer rearward to the point at which it engages a stop and then use pressure on the trigger to release it.

Pistols are not very good at doing even what they have been designed to do. They do not have the stopping power to halt someone quickly. A pistol is really something to use for fighting your way to a rifle. Unfortunately, Border Patrol Agents do not carry rifles and usually have no access to a rifle or even a shotgun. They have only that small, underpowered Beretta and they risk their lives in any confrontation where it must be put to use.

added: I believe this gun uses 40 S&W caliber ammo.
