    Off topic......my garden

Today......I got a ton of onions and tomatoes and a few heads of cabbage from my own home grown garden. I'm drying onions now. Too many to eat and I'm not that knowledgeable on canning and freezing and all that.

It was a new experience for me.

I have a black thumb. Growing things isn't a God given gift to me. But I had to prove to myself I could. The dirt here is as hard as concrete. My husband couldn't get the tiller my dad left to work. So ....in tears.....I beat that darned dirt and planted my seeds and plants. It's NOT a big garden and trust me......we wouldn't survive till fall on the fruits of my labor. But....in spite of me.....I got food! My tomatoes are going like gang busters......the rest....I grew....that's where my success ends. I'm learning. So.....I'm drying onions....never did that before either. But....no-one can tell me there isn't a job we can't do or atleast in my case.....learn to do. Me.....no slaves.....no illegal immigrants.....in all my ignorant glory........I'm thrilled! No bugs and I used NOTHING like pesticides.....did toss on some Miriclegrow......but otherwise.......me and nature and Gods blessing. Just had to share. Silly as that might be.

    But true!

Guess it hit me because they say we can't survive without the illegals. I was raised by POOR WHITE GRINGOS and my dad didn't beleive there was NO job too good for him. My ancestors were FARMERS! This area USED TO BE FARMS. But like everybody else.....they wanted More. More money. Not to have to work so hard........something BETTER for our kids....etc. And I'll give the new awareness to illegals for that. Beleive me......this dirt was and is as hard as concrete. It would have been soooo easy to hire someone or rent a better piece of equipment to do the job sooo much easier. But I was so pissed and angry......I was determined NOT to take the easy way out. And I did....I cried. It was and is HARD work. There's NO DISPUTING that! But to say we can't or won't??? Sorry....wrong there. I'd like to ask them if they have the ability to do sewer systems, or electricity, or BIG business. NO JOB IS BIGGER OR BETTER THAN THE NEXT. They are all VITAL and IMPORTANT. It's business that put a price tag on it....not me. So I am proud of what I did. Ignorance is the lack of knowledge.....I can learn....and I don't need freebies or any other excuse not to do it.

It's sad when our children don't know what a strawberry plant looks like or how to milk a cow or the fact that our school systems put more emphisis on computers than they do on agriculture. Ya don't eat....you die. But you've drawn a bad line when you say I'm too stupid or anything else to be able to do it or learn to do it. I can and I will.

    Crazy,
I don't think your post or what you are doing is silly at all, in fact you should call it your patriot garden.
I grew up with gardens and I have taken care of horses, cattle, sheep, goat and rabbits. I can remember working on a horse ranch for fifty cents an hour, it wasn't much but I got to ride whenever I wanted to.
Keep on doing what your doing and I am sure others here will help you when you need it.

I grow my veggies and harvest them myself. I am learning how to can so I will have some stored up. Next year I hope to have a greenhouse where I can grow food year round. I can assure you that I don’t need illegal labor to help me and if there is something that I don’t know how to do, then I will simply use the brain God has given me and learn it.

BTW, in WWII they had Victory Gardens.

    Thanks for the story.

CRAZY! Congrats!!! Doesn't it feel enpowering? It's so exciting to see those little tiny green spots come up threw the dirt and grow into something recognizable, LOL.

    You did a great job

Freezing onions & tomatoes are easy. If you want directions, just pm me and I'll send them to you.

crazybird, I think there is nothing so satisfying as playing in the dirt lol and seeing your labor come to harvest! Myself, i love gardening, only have to admit it little embarrassing for the Indian, I love flowers, it is killing me right now trying to keep all watered and at least to survive this awful heat we are having and dry, my ground is hard as rock right now. Look at a forum called garden web forum, you can get all kinds of info there! here is the link, gardening is a great stress reliever, lol get upset go pull weeds out of your garden in no time you are feeling much better! It was also a very good "punishment " for the kids when they were little lol they started to fight, I made them go pull weeds,my wife was a great one for peach tree switches (little ones), I found pulling weeds caused much less fighting with that punishment lol.

    Patriot Garden. I like that!

Hey, we may be onto something here!! People are paying top dollar for "organic" stuff at the stores. We could take that to the next level - Organic and Illegal Alien Labor Free products.
