El Paso hits record 109 degrees today

It hit a record-shattering 109 degrees in El Paso this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service Office in Santa Teresa.

It hit 109 at 3:13 p.m. at the official measuring site at El Paso International Airport.

It has hit 105 degrees in Las Cruces. The old record high was 102 degrees for this date.

Weather officials advise residents to drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun, wear sun block and do not leave children or pets in parked cars. Residents should also check on the elderly and pets.
