Eleanor Nordyke's twins and Obama born day apart in Hawaii

In a Hawaiian newspaper article, Eleanor Nordyke says she was in the same hospital on the same days as Obama's mother who gave birth to Barack on Aug. 4, 1961.

According to the story, Nordyke gave birth to twins on Aug. 5, 1961.

Below is the story. I am not good at making links, but I think that if you copy and paste the link into your address bar, the article will come up.

Twin sisters, Obama on parallel paths for years

    December 22, 2008

Twin sisters, Obama on parallel paths for years
Born in same hospital within hours of each other, educated together

Retracing the steps of history, Eleanor Nordyke now realizes that she was in labor with twin daughters while Barack Obama, now the president-elect, was being born at what is now Kapi-'olani Medical Center for Women & Children.

The twins, Susan "Nunu" Bell and Gretchen "Nini" Worthington, were not only born in the same hospital hours after the future president, but also ended up in the same classes with Obama at Noelani Elementary School and later at Punahou School from the seventh grade to graduation in 1979.

"I think it was remarkable that they just so happened to be born within 24 hours of each other and grew up knowing each other," Nordyke said.

She did not know Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, while they were in labor together on Aug. 4, 1961, at the old Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital.

But Nordyke was a population research fellow at the East-West Center while Dunham was there. And Nordyke later met Madelyn Dunham — Ann Dunham's mother and Obama's grandmother — during a cruise to Tahiti in 2002.

"She was placed at our table on the ship," Nordyke said. "She sat with us on that ship for three weeks. She told us that her daughter had passed away and that she had raised her grandson, and he was a social worker in Chicago."

When Obama was making his successful presidential run, Nordyke realized that her daughters were born within hours of him at the same hospital.

The Hawai'i certificate of live birth that Obama displays on his Web site shows he was born at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4.

Nordyke was well into labor by then with girls who were three weeks premature. By 2 p.m. the following day, Susan was born at 5 pounds, 12 ounces, and Gretchen weighed in at 6 pounds, 4 ounces.

As toddlers, the girls called each other "Nunu" and "Nini" "and the other children picked it up, and we held onto it all this time," Nordyke said.

With the names Nordyke and Obama, the twins were often pictured near Obama in their class yearbooks, their mother said.

The daughters now live on the Mainland, and neither returned repeated telephone messages seeking comment.

But one or both may return to Honolulu in June when their class celebrates its 30th reunion, Nordyke said.

Based on an internet copy of a birth record, she assumes Obama was born at the same hospital.

Amazing the interesting things that happen when the Obama's vacation in Hawaii.

The Hawaii newspaper story on the Nordyke family is very, very interesting to me. Let’s see:

Elearnor Nordyke was supposedly in the same Hawaii hospital—Aug. 4, 1961—when Obama was supposedly born.

She gave birth to twins the following day.

    Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecogical Hospital.

NOTE: This newspaper article gives us a wealth of information that I hope a skilled journalist pursues further for the following reasons:

    1. Important: It is the first time I have heard of or read about where we have clear evidence of a person coming out and
telling us of giving birth in the same hospital about the same time as Obama’s supposedly birth on Aug. 4, 1961 in Hawaii.

    2. Also, it is the first chance where we might be able to see an actual Hawaii long form birth certificate—the one with the doctor and birth hospital names on it—from the same time period as Obama’s long form birth certificate.

    3. Most important, the birth doctor’s name: This is most important, because if we can track down the doctor on the Nordyke Hawaii long form birth certificate, he might be able to tell us the names of other doctors who may have delivered other babies like Obama on Aug. 4, 1961.

If the doctor has passed away, maybe his family and friends can tell us about the doctor.

    4. Again, let me stress this point: The doctor’s name on the Nordyke long form Hawaii birth certificate is very importatant, especially if he is still alive.

    5. For instance, the doctor might remember the names of other doctors who would have hospital priviliges to deliver babies in that hospital, and he might remember if any other doctors talked about delivering a black baby to a white mother.

    6. My point is this: it is very urgent that someone persuade the Nordyke family into publicly displaying their original Hawaii long form birth certificate, or a copy of it—the one with the doctor and hospital names on it—the one dated Aug. 1961.

    7. I hope that there is a hard-working, seeker-of-truth reporter out there—preferably NOT from Hawaii—who can track down the Nordyke twins on the mainland and convince them to show the public their Hawaii long form birth certificates from Aug. 5, 1961—-the one with the doctor and birth hospital names on it—so that they, the twins, can help the public find out once and forall whether or not Obama is eligible to be president of the United States.

    8. NOTE: Since the twins went to school with Obama from the time of elementary school, maybe they can tell us if Obama ever went by the name of Soetoro.

    9. NOTE: Maybe the twins can tell us why their births don’t seem to appear in the newspaper like Obama’s birth back in Aug. 1961.

    10. NOTE: If we can get the Nordyke’s doctor’s name, maybe that will lead us to nurses names who were working at the hospital on Aug. 4/5, 1961, and they can give us information about whether or not Obama was born at the hospital on Aug. 4, 1961.

    11. NOTE: What other babies were born in that hospital on or around Aug. 4, 1961? I don’t think that Obama was the only baby born on Aug. 4, 1961, in that hospital.

    12. NOTE: Maybe after reading about the Nordyke family, other families who had babies in the same hospital around Aug, 4, 1961, will now come forward and tell us their stories.

    13. NOTE: The more people who come forward and tell us that they were born in the same hospital and around the same time when Obama was born in Hawaii on Aug. 4, 1961, the better chance we have in finding out if Obama is eligibile to be president.

Maybe the following week's issue of the newspaper would have the birth announcement for twins Nunu and Nini. It seems to be the case that the notices were weekly, not daily.

There have been claims on the internet that Kapiolani did not operate a maternity ward in 1961, and that it was "impossible" that Obama might have been born there, but as with sorting out a lot of "make believe" information this article above would claim otherwise. In doing a search on the hospital I came across this biography of an OB/GYN who passed away in 1989 but whose information is part of a Medical Heritage history project in Hawaii.

The article doesn't show up as a current webpage, but is only in cache memory.

In the 1960 census, Honolulu reported a population of 500,409. Up from
353,020 in 1950. Given that growth rate, there were probably a lot of doctors practicing obstetrics.
