Ex-UBS Banker Charged in U.S. Is Fired at Neue Zuercher Bank

Aug. 21 (Bloomberg) -- A former UBS AG manager who was indicted yesterday in a U.S. crackdown on bankers who helped wealthy Americans hide assets from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service was fired from his new job at Neue Zuercher Bank.

Hansruedi Schumacher, a Neue Zuercher Bank manager who once ran the cross-border business for UBS, was dismissed after being charged with helping Americans evade taxes, said Franziska Gumpfer, a spokeswoman for Zurich-based Neue Zuercher. Schumacher dropped his private-banking responsibilities earlier this year when Neue Zuercher decided to ask U.S. clients to declare themselves with the IRS, she said.
