Former Speaker Boehner: There Is No Republican Party, There's Only a 'Trump Party'

Former Speaker of the House John Boehner believes the Republican Party no longer exists, suggesting it's been taken over by President Trump.

"There is no Republican Party. There's a Trump Party," the Ohio Republican said at an event in Michigan on Thursday.

"The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere," he added.

Kayleigh McEnany, the spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, disputed Boehner's comments, arguing that the party is very much alive and being led by the president.

"I don't agree with the tone he had there. It's a good thing that President Trump is the leader of this party," she said on "America's Newsroom."

McEnany added that Trump is clearly governing as a conservative, pointing out that Trump received more votes in 2016 than any previous GOP presidential candidate.

Boehner left the House of Representatives in 2015 after stepping down as speaker amid strong opposition from conservatives in the party.

Trump is actually making some corrections long needed and overdue in our party, stressing peace, fair trade deals, Americans First, fixes to immigration both legal and illegal, taxes, military, drilling, mining, manufacturing, good full time jobs, higher wages. These are all the things that Republicans used to stand for, but there were enough who didn't that weakened our party and skewed the results in a negative way for our country and citizens. Trump is fixing that. Trump is actually re-educating the entire country on the American Economic System and all it entails. It's a remarkable thing to watch. Historical and he's basically doing it by himself.
