Tucson, Arizona | Published: 08.02.200Authorities in Sonora on Friday found the bodies of four people who appeared to have been killed by drug traffickers.
In Nogales, Sonora, at 7:30 a.m. authorities found two men wrapped in sheets and brown tape with messages taped to their bodies signed by the "Nuevos Zetas" and directed to the Sinaloan cartel.
One of them said, in part, "He who wants to fight with los Zetas, we're going to break you," in Spanish. The second message was similar but with an added threat toward the victim's families.
The Zetas are the paramilitary enforcement arm of the Gulf cartel. The Gulf cartel and the Sinaloa cartel control the flow of drugs through Sonora and Arizona.
Authorities discovered the bodies near a road that goes to the University of Sonora. Both showed signs of having been tortured and shot in the head.
Police said the victims, whose names haven't been confirmed, are a 19-year-old man and a 30-year-old man.
With the discovery of the two bodies, there have now been 49 known slayings in Nogales, Sonora, this year. The violence has occurred across Sonora. In July, there were 23 people found executed in the state.
Also on Friday, authorities found the burned bodies of two men in the trunk of a car on the highway between Agua Prieta and Cananea. They believe they are two of five men kidnapped the week before. Agua Prieta is across from Douglas.
