French Environment Minister Says Nutella Is Causing Global Warming

Just when you thought you’d heard every conceivable cause of global warming…or climate change…or catastrophic climate event…or whatever term the Enviro-Cultists are using today, out of France comes this.

French Environment Minister Ségolène Royal has urged the public to stop eating the well known chocolate hazelnut spread, saying that it contributes to deforestation and damages the environment.
“We have to replant a lot of trees because there is massive deforestation that also leads to global warming. We should stop eating Nutella, for example, because it’s made with palm oil,” Royal said in an interview late 15 July on the French television Canal+.
It will not surprise to you learn that Segolene Royal is a socialist. And as with all followers of that kooky cult, there is never an issue so mundane or irrelevant that can’t be spun into a social or political wedge issue. Royal, whose official title is the Orwellian post of Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, is the former longtime domestic partner of current French president Francois Hollande. As with virtually all of France’s elite politicians, she attended the graduate school Ecole nationale d’adminstration and has spent her adult life living among the super wealthy and influential of French society. In other words, a typical socialist.
Royal’s demonization of Nutella is part of a long record of French leftist antipathy to palm oil. In 2011, the Senate Committee for Social Affairs proposed a 300% tax on the sale of palm oil. Thankfully, for the already over-regulated and bloated state-centered French economy, the measure was defeated.

Ferrero, the parent company of Nutella, sources the majority of its palm oil from Malaysia and the rest from Papua New Guinea, Brazil and Indonesia. Royal and her fellow socialists have been conspicuously silent as to the potential fate of the employees and farmers who cultivate and sell palm oil in these countries if her boycott of Nutella were actually to take effect. As with all leftists, intentions are all the matter, never results.
