In 2084 Mars is ruled by tyrant Vilos Cohaagen, who is suppressing a rebel movement. On Earth construction worker Douglas Quaid visits Rekall, a company that implants false memories, but reacts before the procedure is complete. On the way home he's attacked by Mars agents, killing them. He is soon on the run and a surprise friend tells him to "get your ass to Mars," but he doesn't recall ever being there.
