    Thanks roundabout!

Here's a good page for quotes. But one must be careful in reading them, since many have been modified to say democracy instead of republic. So you may have to alter them or they don't or won't make sense.

But you can look up Madison, Hamilton, and Jefferson to name a few.

One of my favorites from Dr. Franklin is the one that says, "They that would trade essential liberty for a little temporary safety; deserve neither liberty nor safety".

    Thanks for the link Hylander!

Leave to Ben to write down some timeless wisdom, however I am glad that not all of his wisdom was able to infringed upon my turkey with giblets and gravy.

He was right about the wild bird being our symbol. As he put it roughly, the turkey is kean and wyllie. The eagle is scavenger. I think I get the gist of his reasoning behind the use of his prefferred bird.

Besides, you should try to hunt wild turkey. They will give you a run for your money alright. Unlike their domesticated counterparts.

I used to raise bronze turkeys for the table and they had the benefit of helping me to hone my calling skills and to test homemade calls on them for my hunts out back. Nothing like a wild young jake for the table. Back east here we have the added benefit during the spring hunt, that if you got skunked on those wyllie birds you could always resort to hunting mushrooms on the way back to the house. Chances were good that you would bring something tasty back to the house.

Yeah I miss the backwoods in Michigan. The morrel mushrooms that grow wild in the woods, bringin' home a wild jake, or in the autumn plump and juicy ganders and drakes. Maybe get lucky every now and then and pop off a raccoon or two.

My great granmpa used to get the mushrooms too, that grow sideways out of the trunks of trees. They were very tasty too. I think if memory serves me right, that the locals called them "elephant ears". But that was many moons ago, and I was still an adolecent youngster in those days.

No trouble MountainDog! Articles like this one don't crop up every day, so it's nice to share them.
