    The elites fear the populace. Fear breeds irrational reactions. Never corner a rat, it will jump.

    Thanks for the post Kathyet.

    Kind of resembles what has happened to AARP. I would have to do some more reading about the NRA and their stand.

    "We the People" must not ever allow the gov't to dis-arm us.

    PS
    I am a NRA member, I am going to study this matter more carefully. I have always known the NRA to be big gun-rights advocates.

    Go to a gun show or target range here in the Houston area and you will see that no matter what the left says, thinks or does, guns are not going to go away.

    This video has really bothered me and I am trying to find out anything I can on the information on this video. I hope someone smarter than me can decipher this to get to the truth...in fact the NRA called me last night and I didn't have this information because my computer was closed so I couldn't ask the person on the phone about it and I ended up being rude to them...

    Here is the NRA's site
    http://home.nra.org/#/home

    Here is the NRA ILA's site:
    http://www.ask.com/bar?q=current+inform ... 8209477496

    This is a lot of information on the NRA: to massive to bring over this is just a small portion:

    Political lobbying

    Members of Congress have ranked the NRA as the most powerful lobbying organization in the country several years in a row.[7] Opponents of the organization accuse it of unduly influencing political appointments.[8] Chris W. Cox is the NRA's chief lobbyist and principal political strategist, a position he has held since 2002.

    During the 2008 presidential campaign, the NRA spent $10 million.[9]
    [edit] Second Amendment

    In its lobbying for gun rights, the NRA asserts the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individuals to own and use guns. The NRA opposes measures that conflict with the Second Amendment and/or the right to privacy enjoyed by law-abiding citizens who are gun owners. The NRA has supported gun rights on other grounds as well—they opposed the Brady Bill in the courts on Tenth Amendment grounds, not Second Amendment.

    On June 26, 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled for the first time in American history in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment provides for an individual right to own a gun. The implication of this major decision will play out over the next several decades. However, the lawyer who organized the plaintiffs, Robert Levy, told the Washington Post he is "not a member of any of those pro-gun groups," and the case was funded only by him.[10] The NRA has since been party to a lawsuit against the DC government, stating that the emergency legislation enacted by the DC government violates the Constitution in its continued ban on handguns and all semiautomatic firearms and its requirement that any firearm in the home be disassembled, unloaded, and locked away unless there is an "immediate" threat of violence.[11]

    In 2005, the NRA, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), and others successfully sued the Mayor of New Orleans and others to stop unconstitutional gun seizures in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. As of March 2006, documents have been filed by NRA, SAF, et al. seeking to hold Ray Nagin and others in contempt of court for violating the consent order. The case is National Rifle Association of America, Inc., et al. v. C. Ray Nagin et al..[12][13]

    Gun Owners of America (GOA) is a gun rights organization in the United States with over 300,000 members.[1] They make efforts to differentiate themselves from the larger National Rifle Association (NRA), and have publicly criticized the NRA on multiple occasions for what the GOA considers to be the selling out of the gun rights movement.

    The organization has often been in opposition to the NRA in their respective endorsements and ratings of politicians and candidates. For instance, the GOA was outspoken in its opposition to John McCain's 2008 presidential bid, describing his gun-rights voting record as "abysmal, wretched, and pathetic"[2] and rating him with an F- on Second Amendment issues since 2004 as opposed to the NRA's (through its political arm, the NRA-PVF) C+ rating of McCain.[3] The GOA especially took issue with the NRA over the 2007 NICS Improvement Act.[4]

    They have been described by Congressman Ron Paul as "The only no-compromise gun lobby in Washington." This quote from Paul has long been displayed front and center on the homepage of the Gun Owners of America website, and Paul was the only 2008 Presidential candidate to gain an A+ rating from Gun Owners of America.[5]

    [edit] History

    Gun Owners of America was founded in 1975, by NRA Board Member, California State Senator H.L. Richardson (Retired). Richardson continues to serve as the Chairman of Gun Owners of America, where he brings his over 20 years of political experience to the organization. Richardson also founded Gun Owners of California, which deals specifically with pivotal gun ownership rights arising in California. Richardson has also been known as an avid hunter and outdoorsman.[6] GOA's executive director is Larry Pratt, who also hosts GOA's audio webcast, Live Fire.
    [edit] Goals

    Gun Owners of America is a non-profit organization whose main goal is to preserve and defend the Second Amendment. They see the right to bear arms as a fundamental freedom issue. GOA's stance is to "never compromise" and to never accept the status quo.[7] According to GOA's official website, their Board feels as though Americans have lost some of their precious gun rights, and GOA strives to get them back. For the past 30 years GOA has been building a network of lawyers around the nation to aid in taking on anti-gun legislation in the courts. GOA has been involved in legal proceedings in almost every state in the nation, in the hopes to maintain and further pro-gun legislation, and pro-gun rights.[8]
    [edit] Branches

    In 2004, GOA spent over $1.75 million lobbying the U.S. Congress. Between 1998 and 2004, GOA spent over $18 million lobbying Congress.[9] GOA's Federal Political Action Committee is "Gun Owners of America Inc. Political Victory Fund" (C00278101).[10] It raises funds to support the election of pro-gun candidates at all levels of government.

    Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) is a non-profit, tax deductible education foundation. It acts as the research arm for GOA. Their main objective is to hold seminars around the country to inform the public, media outlets, and various government officials on Second Amendment issues.[11] The GOF has recently begun a new campaign by creating Public Service Announcements (PSA) to promote what they call "PROPER Gun Safety". According to GOF their campaign objective is "To generate public awareness of the dangers of not having a gun ready for protection and to encourage gun owners not to lock up their best means of self-defense."[12] The PSAs focus mainly on using statistical data to persuade their target audience, American adults in gun owning households, to not lock up fire arms, but instead to keep them ready and accessible. Among the statistics they use to try to persuade their target audience are:

    * Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year—or about 6,850 times a day. This means that each year, firearms are used more than 60 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.
    * Locking up firearms can cost lives during a life-threatening situation. In California last year, two children died—they were pitchforked to death by a crazed drug addict—because a resident in the home could not access the household firearms in time. The guns were locked up in deference to California state law.
    * Guns are the Great Equalizer for women. As many as 200,000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse.
    * Law-abiding gun owners are a good form of crime control. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606).[13]

    [edit] Recent campaigns

    GOA publicly denounced then President-elect Barack Obama, stating that "Based on his voting record in the Illinois state senate and in the U.S. Senate, President-elect Barack Obama will be the most anti-Second Amendment president in the history of America."[14] GOA is worried that with the swing in majorities in congress, having President Obama alongside congressional leadership, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (considered by GOA to be anti-gun), means that Second Amendment rights could take a huge hit. GOA recently listed their top concerns during the Obama administration:

    * The reauthorization of the Clinton gun ban;
    * Legislation to close down gun shows;
    * A ban on .50 caliber rifles;
    * Massive expansions of the NICS background check system;
    * More and more gun stores put out of business;
    * Ratification of an anti-gun UN treaty;
    * Lock-up-your-safety requirements like personalized handguns, and more.[15]

    GOA has also been battling against New York Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) who has proposed a bill that the GOA are calling the "Veterans Disarmament Act". The bill (HR 2640 & S 2084) would give competent authorities, which would include not only courts, but psychiatrists and in some cases even psychologists the ability to take the gun ownership rights away from veterans who have been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. GOA believes this will take away from the rights of soldiers who have served their country in combat. They also fear that this could have tremendous repercussions on misdiagnosed and improperly classified veterans.[16]
    [edit] GOA victories

    GOA won a huge victory on June 26, 2008, when the U.S. Supreme Court rendered its decision in District of Columbia v. Heller. They ruled in favor of plaintiff Dick Heller and struck down the Washington, D.C. handgun ban. This gave the plaintiff Dick Heller the ability to now apply for a handgun license while living in Washington DC. The ruling also took out any restrictions on forcing guns to have trigger locks on them; citing that "self defense is a protected right envisioned by the [2nd] amendment."[17]

    On June 6, 1995, GOA successfully helped in lobbying the House of Representatives to vote against the Moran Amendment, by a vote of 278 to 149. The Amendment would have banned .50 caliber weaponry from being licensed for export.[18]

    On July 13, 2006, The Senator David Vitter (R-LA) got a sweeping victory by a vote of 84-16. His amendment declares that no federal money can be used for federal agents to confiscate weapons during a declared state of emergency. This bill was passed not even a year after the devastation in Vitter's home state from Hurricane Katrina. The GOA consider this a sizable win for pro-gun activists.[19]

    On June 27, 2007, GOA recorded a victory by getting the Pence Amendment passed. The bill, named after Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN), was passed by a vote of 309-115. According to GOA the amendment would have allowed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to radically limit the speech allowed by organizations like GOA over the airwaves.[20]

    On August 9, 2007, GOA received another huge win in congress. Sen. Vitter once again pushed through a bill stating that no US funds can be used by the United Nations or any group affiliated with the United Nations to restrict or tax the 2nd Amendment rights. If they attempt to do so, the US can rightfully pull out all of their funds from the organization. This bill, HR-2764, passed with a staggering 81-10 vote.[21]

    On February 25, 2008, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) amended bill S-1200, The Indian Health Care Improvement Act. In the Act, the wording stated that the funds were to be used for "violence prevention". Once the funds were attempted to be used for gun buy-backs and other such anti-firearm policies, Sen. DeMint pushed through an amendment to the Act stating that the money cannot be used for any anti-gun programs. The bill passed by a margin of 78-11.[22]

    Although Shumer has a nasty smirk. Limits for all politicians. Watch the b.s. we've had to endure stop, cold in it's tracks.

    On a little sidenote, the 2nd Ammendment is the only place in the founding documents where the word "necessary" is used.

    "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

    Which lends to the saying, "When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty."
