A pair of gun-wielding teenage girls from Austria are believed to have answered the call to jihad in Syria — and may be inspiring others to do the same.

Samra Kesinovic, 16, and Sabina Selimovic, 15, are the daunting duo feared to be encouraging young Austrian girls to flee their country and take up arms in Syria to help ISIS spread violence, Central European News reports.

Austria’s Interior Ministry has confirmed that two additional girls from Vienna — ages 16 and 14 — recently were nabbed trying to sneak out of the country and join the Islamic State jihadists.

They were caught when the mother of a third friend who was supposed to go with them to Syria grew suspicious when she noticed all the luggage her daughter had packed.

Little is known about the two, but their parents are believed to be from Iraq. Police are trying to piece together how the wannabe jihadis could have become radicalized and who may have lent a direct hand in getting them to Syria.

Kesinovic and Selimovic vanished from Austria earlier this year and paraded their terror involvement on social media, posting images of themselves holding AK47s as they stood among several armed men, according to CEN.

Austrian media dubbed the girls the new face of jihad in Syria two weeks ago and warned that others just like them have started to become galvanized by their actions.

“If we can catch them before they leave, we have the chance to work with their parents and other institutions to bring the youngsters out of the sphere of influence that prompted them to act in this way in the first place,” said Interior Ministry spokesman Alexander Marakovits.

He added that the problem with teenagers fleeing the country to commit bloodshed abroad is something that’s increased greatly and is difficult to fix.

“Once they have left the country, even if they then changed their minds, it is then almost impossible to get them back.”

Up to 130 people from Austria are believed to be waging jihad across the globe, CEN reports. More than half of them are thought to have originally traveled from the Caucasus region and have valid residence permits in Austria.

TEEN WHO JOINED ISIS 'KILLED TRYING TO ESCAPE'

Became 'poster girl' after arriving in Syria in 2014

One of the Islamic State group’s “poster girls” was allegedly killed after trying to flee Syria.

Samra Kesinovic, 17, left Vienna in April 2014 to join the Sunni terror group with her 16-year-old friend Sabina Selimovic. Both were featured in propaganda videos from Raqqa, Syria, until Selimovic died in the war zone, the United Nations Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee, or CTED, reported last December.

Local Austrian papers reported that Kesinovic, who married an ISIS fighter, was killed trying to escape Raqqa, the Telegraph reported Tuesday.

A unidentified Tunisian woman who claimed to have lived with both teenagers relayed the news.

David Scharia, a senior Israeli expert with CTED, said the girls, originally from Bosnia, were radicalized by an Bosnian preacher living in Vienna. The man, known as “Ebu Tejma,” was arrested and charged with funding ISIS earlier this month, the Daily Mail reported.

Austrian officials estimate that at least 130 of its citizens are now fighting in Syria on behalf of the Sunni terror network.
Austrian Interior Ministry spokesman Alexander Marakovits said on Tuesday the nation was experiencing a spike in interest with ISIS among young people, the newspaper reported.

“If we can catch them before they leave we have the chance to work with their parents and other institutions to bring the youngsters out of the sphere of influence that prompted them to act in this way the first place. Once they have left the country, even if they then changed their minds, it is then almost impossible to get them back,” Marakovits said.

Thomas Schnoll, a spokesman for the foreign ministry, told the Telegraph he could not comment on the teenager’s case.

Teenage Austrian 'poster girl for the Islamic State' killed by group for trying to escape

Sabra Kesinovic, 17, was reportedly murdered after she was caught attempting to escape from Raqqa, Syria

An Austrian teenager who became a poster girl for the Islamic State has reportedly been beaten to death by the group after she was caught trying to leave Syria.

Sabra Kesinovic, 17, was murdered after she was caught attempting to escape from Raqqa, Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant's (Isil) de facto capital in Syria, according to reports in two Austrian newspapers.

She appeared extensively in Isil propaganda material after leaving her native Vienna to join the group together with Sabina Selimovic, a 16-year-old friend.

The two teenagers were shown wearing Islamic headbands and brandishing Kalashnikov rifles, surrounded by masked male jihadists.

They were also shown wearing full Islamic veils and pointing towards heaven.

The Austrian government refused to comment on reports in Österreich and Kronen Zeitung newspapers that Kesinovic had been beaten to death.

“We cannot comment on individual cases,” Thomas Schnöll, a spokesman for the foreign ministry said.

Both Austrian women are now believed to be dead, after reports Selimovic was killed in fighting in Syria last year.
Krone Zeitung newspaper quoted an unnamed Tunisian woman who lived with the two Austrians in Raqqa as saying Kesinovic was murdered.

The Tunisian, who was also an Isil volunteer for a woman, later escaped.

Kesinovic and Selimovic were both children of Bosnian refugees who fled to Austria from the war in their country during the nineties.

Their families reported them missing after they disappeared from their homes in Vienna last year.

They reportedly left a note for their families which read: “Don’t look for us. We will serve Allah and we will die for him.”
They were traced as taking a flight to the Turkish capital of Ankara, and travelling on to the region of Adana, close to the border with Syria.

It emerged they had joined Isil after Kesinovic telephoned her sister from Syria to let her know she was alright.
She reportedly wrote home late last year telling family she wanted to return and that she has had enough of the extreme violence she witnessed every day.

It is believed they both married Isil jihadists in Syria. Selimovic later denied reports she was pregnant in an exchange of SMSes to the magazine Paris Match, and claimed she was happy in Syria.

“Here I can really be free. I can practise my religion. I couldn’t do that in Vienna,” she told the magazine.
Reports of her death first emerged last year from David Scharia, an expert at the UN security council’s counter-terrorism committee.

    Austrian teenager Samra Kesinovic

“We received information just recently about two 15-year-old girls, of Bosnian origin, who left Austria,” he said.

“Both were recruited by Islamic State. One was killed in the fighting in Syria, the other has disappeared.”

It now seems that the disappearance was explained by Kesinovic’s murder.

Authorities have accused a Bosnian Islamic preacher living in Vienna of recruiting the two women for Isil. He has denied the accusation.

Named only as Mirsad O under Austrian privacy laws, he is also known as Abu Tejda.

He was arrested last year over separate allegations he was part of a terrorist funding network.

Both women’s families were warned that one of them was feared dead by the Austrian authorities last year.
Neither family has commented on the latest reports.
