Latino-Black Rivalry Helped Fuel G.O.P.’s Takeover of State Senate
By NICHOLAS CONFESSORE and DANNY HAKIM
ALBANY — When two Democratic state senators, Pedro Espada Jr. and Hiram Monserrate, joined Republicans on the Senate floor Monday to kick off their surprise takeover of the chamber, almost every other Democratic senator in the room walked out in anger, shock or disgust.
But as Mr. Espada stood to be sworn in as the new president of the Senate, several other Latino lawmakers, all members of the Assembly, filed into the room and stood behind him, beaming like proud parents.

Puerto Ricans are citizens who face competition from illegal aliens here and in Puerto Rico. If they gain power against those Dominican and South American Latino New York Democratic politicians who want to extend amnesty as patronage to their countrymen it would be a good thing. However will their politicians betray them as the non Latino politicians have us?

We need to have a Balance of Power in Government.
I think this shake up in New York is great news for people of all races and creeds in New York as well as across our country. The quote that “Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutelyâ€

It is a matter of time and the Latino, Black and others will turn on each other. (As illustrated in the article, and I have a freedom to speech, still. Or is it only some can name the minority groups and others like me cannot.)
Our side must keep pro-amnesty out of elected office.

Our Gov't wants to divide and conquer us.
Personally I am tired of hyphenated Americans. We are all Americans and we must ALL come together and get our country out of the hands of this corrupt and down right evil administration. I think that our government is not above starting race wars in our country, as a means of diverting our attention from what they are attempting to put into place.

I think ele is right. Although I think they already have started race wars. Look at the hate crimes bill. Look at affirmitive action. They are all designed to pander to one class or race or the other. I also am tired of the hyphenated Americans and the government is always trying to hyphenate us. That is why I don't understand why we have a hispanic and black caucus. When you pass a law it should be good for ALL Americans, not just hispanics or blacks. We allow groups like LaRaza, NAACP etc to continue but we can't have a KKK. To me they are all the same, racisist because they want to beneift one race or the other. Plus it should be Americans of African or latin or Asian etc. decent. Unless they came over directly from Africa, etc, they are not African Americans, etc.

Vmonkey I do not know who you are referring to as our side but the Immigration Enforcement Movement includes Blacks and Latinos

I am not trying to respond for vmonkey nor obviously do I know what he meant, but I have to tell you: I think racial minority groups such as the political caucus and politicians mentioned in this article bear much of the responsibility for constantly portraying the immigration issue as one about race and ethnicity, an "us against them", with "us" being ALL minority groups who are victims of "them" the evil mainstream white society.
I think vmonkey said "our side" meaning pro-enforcement people vs. Democrat politicians such as those mentioned in this article who want to keep their race-based coalition united, which includes hispanics, and which does usually mean they will vote against any enforcement of immigration and for increased rights of illegal aliens. I think vmonkey is responding to the fact that the politicians mentioned in this article are Democratic senators, who play the race card games, who are big into racial identity, who include in their political caucus anyone except whites. They are unlikely to be for enforcement of immigration laws, and I think you know that.
Though I know there are some Latinos in favor of immigration enforcement, I hear thats true, rarely do I see or hear anything from an Hispanic who speaks in favor of enforcement. If they are afraid to do so because of repercussions in their Latino community, how do you expect us to automatically know that? Why are they staying only in their Latino community? Are they assimilating?
I know there is or was an organization of Latinos for enforcement and they had a website "You Don't Speak for Me", but I never see articles they've written, I never hear anything about this organization in the news, I never see a rep from this organizaton on TV. Lou Dobbs would probably interview one in a second.
Just like after 911, there was all this talk about prejudice against Muslims, We were constantly hearing how it wasn't fair to make assumptions about any Muslims living in the U.S., or anywhere for that matter. Yet I VERY RARELY heard a Muslim speak out against 911. Rarely heard one of them come out and condemn 911. Never heard one come out and express their support for America.
If you are angry that more people aren't aware of how many Hispanics are against illegal immigration, please encourage any hispanic friends or acquaintances to speak up.
I think your question is better asked of the Democrat leaders who play the racial identity game to the hilt. In this very post Al Sharpton is quoted as getting all upset at the "turncoat" Hispanic, and talking about how they need to keep "the coalition" together. He specifically means blacks, hispanics, and asians, as it states in the article. That means they need to keep agreeing on most issues, which almost always includes being against any attempts at enforcement of immigration laws, and increasing the rights of illegal aliens.<div>Number*U.S. military*in S.Korea to protect their border with N.Korea: 28,000.
