Hate Bills Protest Calls Flood House Judiciary

Hate Bills Protest Calls Flood House Judiciary

    By Rev. Ted Pike
    9-29-9

In response to my weekend emergency alert "More Hate Bill Hearings This Week" the offices of House Judiciary Republicans today all reported "lots of calls" protesting ADL's four new hate crimes bills. Staffers repeatedly told callers "we already know about the four hate bills." Their response could not be in greater contrast to last Thursday when I called ten Republican Judiciary offices and found them nearly oblivious to the threat of new hate bills.

This proves there are still many lovers of freedom who, despite hate bill passage in the House and Senate this spring and enormous distraction of healthcare reform, are willing to speak out in the most effective way - telephone protest.

Today's response helps ensure that the Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act and the Safe Schools Improvement Act will meet stiff resistance in the Crime Subcommittee hearing this Wednesday at 3 PM EST (You can watch the webcast at http://judiciary.house.gov/hearings/calendar.html ) Its five Republicans, Reps. Gohmert, Goodlatte, Forbes, Lungren, Poe, and Rooney, are all fighting Republicans, who have battled the hate bill heroically in the past two Congresses.

On the other hand, although scheduled last week the Safe Schools Improvement Act may not be considered on Wednesday. Its radical agenda of banning any "repeated or persuasive" criticism of homosexuality in the public schools, defining such as "violence," may be too hard a sell. Instead, the House Judiciary website now only schedules a new companion bill to ADL's cyberbullying bill, the AWARE Act (Adolescent Web Awareness Requires Education Act), HR 3630. Introduced last Wednesday by Jewish activist Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, AWARE provides federal grants to school, educational and civic groups, and "civil liberties" fronts like ADL and Southern Poverty Law Center to educate our nation's youth against the dangers of cyberbullying, i.e., criticism of homosexuality, over the internet. It also empowers education of youth against websites and blogs which ADL considers "hate sites," those critical of homosexuality, Zionism, or the establishment figure of six million Holocaust dead.

Introduction of AWARE is a last-minute strategic move by Democrats. Unless Judiciary Republicans are warned on Tuesday, they could well be overwhelmed by the seemingly high-minded arguments of AWARE supporters.

Call House Judiciary Republican offices, particularly those of Gohmert, Goodlatte, Forbes, Lungren, Poe, and Rooney, at 1-877-851-6437 toll-free or 1-202-225-3121 toll. Tell them: "Please encourage the Congressman to oppose the AWARE Act, HR 3630, in the Crime Subcommittee hearing on Wednesday. It is a companion bill empowering the cyberbullying bill to teach school children that cyberbullying means criticism of homosexuality on the internet."

The upheaval of protest today gives new hope not only of holding the battle line in the Judiciary but of giving courage to other Congressional Republicans. The great value of a heated, controversial hate bill hearing is that word of it resonates throughout Congress. It inspires and focuses Republicans while making Democrats more cautious. With Democrat caution comes the possibility of delay and error; such includes indecisiveness in strategy, the granting of more hearings, and attaching hate bills as amendments rather than standalone legislation.

The more delay we can generate, the greater the possibility these bills cannot proceed forward fully this fall. As winter and spring approach and Democrats come uncomfortably near mid-term elections, there is an excellent chance they may consider these pro-homosexual bills counterproductive to the "family values" image they must project to elect enough Democrats to stay in power.

Good job, lovers of freedom! Keep up the calling -- also to Senate Judiciary Republicans who will soon face the same hate bills (names http://www.truthtellers.org/actionplan.html available HERE on the Action Page at http://www.truthtellers.org www.truthtellers.org ). Your efforts prove there is still a Gideon band of American heroes out there who have not bought into Dr. Dobson's big lie that there is nothing we can do but pray.

As for me, I've only begun to fight.

    Wonderful...

Introducing and pushing bills that give them taxpayer dollars...No thanks. These Bills are an affront to free speach.
