ISIS May Not be as Powerful as Feared, Says Canadian Journalist
Written by Warren Mass
ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and currently operating under its new brand, “The Islamic State,” is the new al-Qaeda. But one Canadian journalist believes that ISIS is not nearly so powerful as most Westerners think, and that because the group has far more enemies than allies, it is unlikely to accomplish it objectives to gain control of a wide swath of the Middle East.
While ISIS may be the new al-Qaeda in the sense that it has become the most feared terrorist organization in the Middle East at the moment, it is, in fact, an offshoot of the old al-Qaeda. It is the successor to the group commonly known as al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI). ISIS had close links to al-Qaeda until February 2014, when the original al-Qaeda disowned the group, reportedly for its brutality and “notorious intractability.”
On May 14, the U.S. State Department announced its decision to use “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL) as the group’s primary name. By whatever name, however, ISIS has dominated the news for its swift capture of much territory in northern Iraq and for its brutal treatment of those under it control. This has included the the beheadings of American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff in August. The previous month, the terrorist group beheaded approximately 50 soldiers of Syria's 17th division after attacking their base in Ar-Raqqah, Syria.
Despite its brutality and rapid takeover of important cities in Iraq such as Mosul and Tikrit, Andre Mayer, writing an analysis for Canada’s CBC on September 8, said that ISIS may not be as powerful as many Westerners believe.
Mayer cites Wayne White, a scholar at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C., who worked for several decades as an Iraq analyst for the U.S. government. White maintains that the language used by Western governments and media to characterize ISIS has “distorted” the extent of the group’s threat and “allowed public pressure to rise for radical solutions.”
White also notes that since the recent release of videos purportedly showing the beheadings of journalists Foley and Sotloff by ISIS, Western governments — including Canada’s — have committed to greater action to try to suppress the terrorist group.
But White asserts that ISIS is not the persuasive threat it has been portrayed as.
“I’m not saying it isn’t dangerous — we all know its character and fanaticism. That’s plain to see. But it feeds on weakness,” said White. While its territorial gains are not insignificant, he says the areas ISIS has “gobbled up” are regions where it “found weakness.” White described these areas as places where the group was able to collaborate with local groups, “or places where Shia or Kurdish forces wouldn’t really fight for those areas.”
This description certainly fits Mosul, where last spring the government troops suffered what a BBC reporter described as “a dramatic collapse of morale,” even though Iraqi security forces outnumbered ISIS fighters by more than 15 to one. This military meltdown was so catastrophic that former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki issued a sharp condemnation of the defenders on June 11, when he said: “The commanders who retreated and wavered must be punished.”
Maliki, whose term just ended this week, had warned that the consequences of the Obama administration’s backing of “rebel” forces in Syria would be an unprecedented disaster. In an opinion piece published by the Washington Post on April 9, Maliki — who was installed after the U.S. government’s “regime change” operation in 2003 — called for an end to all arms transfers heading into Syria, both to the “rebels” and to the Assad regime, which is being supplied by Russia and Iran.
“We have been mystified by what appears to be the widespread belief in the United States that any outcome in Syria that removes President Bashar al-Assad from power will be better than the status quo,” Maliki wrote. “A Syria controlled in whole or part by al-Qaeda and its affiliates — an outcome that grows more likely by the day — would be more dangerous to both our countries than anything we’ve seen up to now. Americans should remember that an unintended consequence of arming insurgents in Afghanistan to fight the Soviets was turning the country over to the Taliban and al-Qaeda.”
The rebel coalition fighting against the Assad regime in Syria has been supported by the U.S. government, and President Obama expressed hope in a news conference last April to “mobilize the international community to support” installing a new regime in Syria.
On May 21, 2013, when the Senate was considering a bill to authorized “critical support to the Syrian opposition through provision of military assistance, training, and additional humanitarian support,” Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) warned his colleagues, nearly all of whom voted to send arms to Syrian rebels: “This is an important moment. You will be funding, today, the allies of al-Qaeda.”
Paul was obviously aware that elements of al-Qaeda were among the anti-Assad rebels, and that some of the U.S. aid sent to the rebels would undoubtedly find its way to these extremists. Since the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) operates in both Syria and Iraq, it is not surprising that U.S. aid to the rebels in Syria abetted the ISIS in its bloody campaign to take over much of Iraq.
Though the establishment press has largely attempted to downplay the role of al-Qaeda, ISIS, and other jihadists in fighting Assad, there are exceptions. For example, The Nation published an essay on August 21 of this year, “How the War on Terror Created the World's Most Powerful Terror Group,” which is an excerpt from The Jihadis Return: ISIS and the New Sunni Uprising, a new book by Middle East correspondent Patrick Cockburn. Cockburn noted the inconsistent policy the United States is employing by carrying out air strikes and sending in advisers and trainers to help beat back ISIS’s advance in Iraq, while doing practically the opposite in Syria, where U.S. policy is to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad. Overthrowing Assad, coincidentally, also happens to be the policy of ISIS and other jihadis in Syria. Cockburn writes:
The reality of US policy is to support the government of Iraq, but not Syria, against ISIS. But one reason that group has been able to grow so strong in Iraq is that it can draw on its resources and fighters in Syria. Not everything that went wrong in Iraq was the fault of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, as has now become the political and media consensus in the West. Iraqi politicians have been telling me for the last two years that foreign backing for the Sunni revolt in Syria would inevitably destabilize their country as well. This has now happened.
From al-Qaeda to ISIS, it seems that the terrorist groups that have become the most threatening to the interests of moderate Middle Easterners are those that our government has assisted, somewhere along the line.
President Obama will address the nation at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday from the State Floor of the White House to share his plan to fight ISIS. (The White House prefers the abbreviation ISIL.)
After an interview on Meet the Press in which Obama referred to the terror group as ISIL, host Chuck Todd noted: “Obviously we refer to it at NBC News as ISIS. The Obama administration, president, says the word ISIL. The last S stands for Syria, the last L they don’t want to have stand for Syria.” The administration, apparently, would rather have the public forget that it backed ISIS in Syria as part of the anti-Assad coalition, while it is committed to fighting the terrorists in Iraq.

Obama Sued For Funding Terrorist Group Hamas
Posted on September 2, 2014
This seems pretty open and shut.
Check it out:
Larry Klayman, the founder of Judicial Watch and now Freedom Watch, and a former U.S. Department of Justice prosecutor who helped break up AT&T, today announced that he and other plaintiffs have filed a civil lawsuit in federal court in D.C. (Case no. 14-1484) under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act “RICO” for criminal acts by President Barack Hussein Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and the U.N. Secretary General for laundering U.S. dollars to the terrorist organization HAMAS. This money has been been foreseeably used to buy rockets and construct tunnels to attack Israel and terrorize and kill American and dual American-Israeli citizens who reside or are located in Israel.
As set forth in the complaint, which can be viewed at www.freedomwatchusa.org, the defendants have conspired to send money, that is hundreds of millions of U.S. Dollars to HAMAS, under the false pretext that this financial support will be used for humanitarian purposes. However, as recently reported by Voice of America and the New York Times, the recent killing of the chief HAMAS financial officer by the IDF confirmed that these U.S. dollars, only some of which was found in his bombed out car, has predictably fallen into the hands of HAMAS’s terrorist wing which controls and was elected by Gazans to govern over them.
Larry Klayman, the lead plaintiff had this to say upon filing suit: “The nation and the world have increasingly come to see that Obama views himself primarily as a Muslim and acts accordingly in favoring Islamic interests over Judeo-Christian ones, and the complaint lays out Obama’s history in documented detail. This includes his actions calculated to harm the nation of Israel. His facilitating and ordering financial and other material aid to HAMAS, along with his equally anti-Israel Secretaries of State Kerry and Clinton, and the U.N. Secretary General, is just the latest deadly chapter in what amounts to criminal activity which has logically resulted in harm and death to Jews and Christians and threatens the continued existence of Israel. That is why he and the other defendants were sued under RICO and other relevant laws.”

The American people had better wake up! Our so-called leaders, President Barack Hussein Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, with the end of the latest Israeli-Hamas war, are about to resume their slick, under-the-table scheme to fund Hamas with U.S. dollars, allegedly earmarked for humanitarian purposes. As explained in excruciating detail in a complaint I filed Thursday against these criminals (see FreedomWatchUSA.org), Obama and company – and let’s also throw the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton into the mix as she is a defendant as well – have been using a State Department slush fund, authorized by Congress for legitimate purposes, to send U.S. dollars to Hamas, a “subsidiary” of the Muslim Brotherhood and a designated terrorist group.
The bigger problem is that the people of Gaza, whose nation now lies mostly in ruins, voted Hamas into power to rule over them. And recently Hamas reached an agreement with the Palestinian Authority, which governs Palestinian-controlled areas of the West Bank, to rule over all Palestinians. Thus, your hard-earned taxpayer monies in the hundreds of millions have been, and will continue to be, sent to Hamas for “humanitarian purposes.” However, this financial support is in large part also being used to purchase rockets and to build tunnels to attack the land of Jesus and Moses, Israel. And, those who travel to Israel, as I did during this latest war that ended just a few days ago with a phony and compromised cease-fire before Hamas was finished off for good, are being either threatened with serious bodily injury or death or are being killed outright. During this latest war with Hamas, 64 Israelis were killed, some of whom were either American citizens or dual American-Israeli citizens who went to the Holy Land to fight for our God-given right of Jews and, by extension, Christians to the land of Zion.
One might ask: How is it possible that Obama and his comrades could get away with this? Where is the opposition Republican political party, which prides itself on claimed honest dealings and patriotism? Indeed, now that the threat to our shores from ISIS, another and even worse Muslim terrorist group, is becoming increasingly known, how is it that, according to the Republicans, Obama is all to blame for allowing this radical Islamic cancer to grow? Why haven’t the leaders in the Republican Party loudly spoken up before now? Apparently, their primary interest is getting on Fox News to win the next election this fall and in 2016, not forcing Congress to serve as a real check to a president and his enablers who are bent on destroying the nation.
Help Larry Klayman with his class-action suit against Obama’s use of the NSA to violate Americans’ rights
This is a dilemma that We the People find ourselves in today. To remain silent and take no forceful decisive action would amount to sowing the seeds of our own destruction. I, for one, am trying to use the legal system, what is left of it given its march toward increased corruption in recent years, to try to check this tyranny. Recently, I have had some success, particularly in our lawsuits against the National Security Agency, or NSA, where a rare courageous judge found Dec. 16, 2013, that it had violated the constitutional rights of all Americans by accessing their most private telephone conversations and related data, known as metadata. This coercive spying is obviously intended to keep the people down so they do not even question the acts of our establishment leaders, who continue to line their own pockets at the expense of all of us. The case is headed for the Supreme Court. But while the NSA’s tyranny, at the direction of both Democrat and Republican leaders on congressional intelligence committees and in the Obama White House, may be technically checked, the hard reality is that this nation and the world are in the process of coming unglued at the seams.
The events of the last week, and months in particular, have proven that the United States is in dire and critical condition, hanging by a thread, ruled over by a president who is more loyal to his Middle Eastern Muslim brothers and his racial heritage than all of the people. In this latter respect, just look at his biased conduct, and that of his equally racist attorney general, with regard to the sad events in Ferguson, Missouri – where a policeman was effectively condemned to prosecution for killing a black man before all the facts were known. Meanwhile, white cops killed by blacks (and there have been six in the last few years just in my native city of Philadelphia alone) get no attention from this president and his Al Sharpton-like allies. And, this is how it should be, as these tragic events should be left to law enforcement, and the president and his men should not intervene to create a lynching party to hang “whitey” for years of past invidious discrimination.
Fellow Americans, remember the Declaration of Independence and the revolution that followed and take heed. Now, 238 years later, it’s time to again think things through and act against a tyrannical sovereign who is destroying the nation and our lives, as time is all but running out.

Obama’s Long ISIS War: It Will Take Years and Kill Thousands
Continuation of "creative destruction" under the war on terror banner
by Kurt Nimmo | Infowars.com | September 8, 2014
The New York Times, long the preferred conduit for war propaganda, has laid out Obama’s plan to defeat ISIS, aka the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
The administration warns the effort will take years to complete and continue after Obama has left office. The first phase a sustained air campaign will, the Times claims, roll back ISIS gains in northern and western Iraq. Details on how this will work minus ground troops is not explained.
Next, the United States will shuffle around the government in Iraq to make it “more inclusive.” This is total blue sky.
Following the U.S. invasion and the toppling and eventual execution of strongman and former CIA operative Saddam Hussein, Iraq predictably descended into sectarian violence. This was planned. “What is unfolding is a process of ‘constructive chaos,’ engineered by the West,” writes Julie Lévesque. “The destabilization of Iraq and its fragmentation has been planned long ago and is part of the “Anglo-American-Israeli ‘military road map’ in the Middle East,” an effort introduced during the Bush administration and coined the “New Middle East” by then U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
The final element of Obama’s supposed plan to deal with ISIS calls for a de facto invasion of Syria. The Pentagon estimates this part of the plan will take at least 36 months.
Of course, the Pentagon is notorious for issuing such off the wall figures. Back in 2002, as the U.S. prepared for an invasion of Iraq — ultimate death toll, over a million people — then Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld declared the invasion would be mercifully short. “The idea that it’s going to be a long, long, long battle of some kind I think is belied by the fact of what happened in 1990,” he said, making a reference to the previous invasion of Iraq. “Five days or five weeks or five months, but it certainly isn’t going to last any longer than that,” he said. “It won’t be a World War III.”
Following the official timeline the Iraq War lasted nearly nine years, making it the third longest war in U.S. history. The War in Afghanistan lasted just over 13 years and the Vietnam War nearly 11. By contrast, U.S. participation in the Second World War ended after 3.7 years.
The U.S. admits the obviously unworkable plan to get rid of ISIS is unprecedented.
From the Times:The military campaign Mr. Obama is preparing has no obvious precedent. Unlike American counterterrorism operations in Yemen and Pakistan, it is not expected to be limited to drone strikes against militant leaders. Unlike the war in Afghanistan, it will not include the use of ground troops, which Mr. Obama has ruled out.Like the so-called “Kosovo war” and the first Iraq invasion, the war against ISIS, an enemy created by the United States and its partners in the Middle East, will be a war against civilians.
Unlike the Kosovo war that President Bill Clinton and NATO nations waged in 1999, it will not be compressed into an intensive 78-day tactical and strategic air campaign. And unlike during the air campaign that toppled the Libyan leader, Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, in 2011, the Obama administration is no longer “leading from behind,” but plans to play the central role in building a coalition to counter ISIS.
ISIS Will Live to Fight Another Day
Faced with U.S. air power and sustained bombing raids, ISIS will melt back into the civilian population. “A Reuters examination of three weeks of U.S. air strikes reveals significant changes in the way the ISIS operates since the U.S. joined the struggle against them, with fewer militants on the streets of Mosul the clearest sign,” Isabel Coles and Peter Apps reported for Reuters last week.
“ISIS cannot hide the heavy equipment it captured (like howitzers, trucks and tanks) if it uses them in battle, and it can’t hide them or protect them from attack unless perhaps it brings them into populated areas,” notes Michael S. Rozeff. “ISIS is also spread thin and vulnerable to an opposition force that relies on maneuverability and operational initiative. These weaknesses suggest that ISIS will pull in its horns for a while and go back to hit and run truck bomb tactics. This means that a conventional victory against ISIS won’t be possible… ISIS cannot be defeated militarily as Obama’s rhetoric suggests.”
The U.S. ran out of military targets within the first few days of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. It then concentrated on civilian infrastucutre and so-called “dual-use” targets — electrical power, media, and telecommunications installations. The targeting of civilian infrastructure was more extensive during the first Iraq invasion and included a wide range of civilian targets from electric power generation and water treatment to food processing and distribution facilities and markets and even historical sites.
A Continuation of “Creative Destruction” in the Middle East
Reducing nations to failed state status is a specialty of the U.S. military and the process of “constructive chaos” will continue and likely be amplified during the ISIS phase of the clash of civilizations war.
In addition to further balkanizing Iraq along religious and sectarian lines, the ISIS war will strive to take down the al-Assad government in Syria and import balkanization and, through poverty and thirdworldization, finlandization (pacification).
The ultimate objective was outlined by the World Tribunal on Iraq. Its conclusions, reached in 2005, were ignored by the war propaganda media, including The New York Times. The tribunal argued from Istanbul that the U.S. and its partners had engaged
“…in policies to wage permanent war on sovereign nations. Syria and Iran have already been declared as potential targets. In declaring a ‘global war on terror,’ the US government has given itself the exclusive right to use aggressive military force against any target of its choosing. Ethnic and religious hostilities are being fueled in different parts of the world.”

Turkey Denies U.S. Permission for Combat Attacks on ISIL
Recep Tayyip Erdogan / AP
BY: Washington Free Beacon Staff
September 11, 2014 10:30 am
Turkey will not allow a U.S.-led coalition to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Iraq and Syria from Turkish air bases, AFP reports.
Turkey will also not participate in combat operations but will instead focus on humanitarian aid to the countries. ISIL currently controls large portions of territory in Iraq and Syria along Turkey’s borders.
” Turkey will not be involved in any armed operation but will entirely concentrate on humanitarian operations,” a government official told AFP.
Turkey has come under fire by some critics for indirectly encouraging the formation of ISIS because of its support of Islamist opponents of Syrian President Bashar Assad, and its loose control of its borders.
Turkey is reluctant to attack ISIL due to the high number of Turkish hostages ISIL is holding, according to AFP.
“Our hands and arms are tied because of the hostages,” the official told AFP.
Turkey can open Incirlik Air Base in the south for logistical and humanitarian operations in any US-led operation, according to the official who stressed that the base would not be used for lethal air strikes.

British female jihadis running ISIS 'brothels' allowing killers to rape kidnapped Yazidi women
British female jihadis are running brothels full of women kidnapped and forced into sex slavery by Islamic State militants.
It is understood they are members of an ultra-religious IS ‘police’ force tasked with looking after girls captured from the Yazidi tribe in Iraq.
As many as 3,000 Iraqi women have been taken captive in the last two weeks by the terror group.
Sources suggest that members of the all-women al-Khanssaa Brigade in Raqqa, Syria, are running brothels to satisfy the fighters’ desires.
One said: “These women are using barbaric interpretations of the Islamic faith to justify their actions.
“They believe the militants can use these women as they please as they are non-Muslims.
“The Yazidi people are being ethnically cleansed, and their women are being subjected to the most brutal treatment.
“It is the British women who have risen to the top of the Islamic State’s sharia police and now they are in charge of this operation.
"It is as bizarre as it is perverse.”
A report obtained by the Daily Mirror from researchers at think tank MEMRI – the Middle East Media Research Institution – confirms ethnic sex slavery is taking place on a massive scale.
The report states: “During its takeover of large parts of northern Iraq the IS captured many Yazidi villages, and reportedly took many Yazidi women to be sold and used as sex slaves.”

There’s growing outrage that a possible act of jihad in the United States is being ignored. 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin was shot to death in New Jersey in late June.
Authorities later charged Ali Muhammad Brown with murder.

After his arrest, Brown said his motive was revenge for U.S. actions in the Middle East. This led to New York-area radio host Todd Pettengill sounding off on what he sees as an act of domestic terrorism.
“If there was ever a reason to riot in the streets in the name of humanity, it would be for this case. But has that happened? No, and I’m not suggesting that it should. ...This should be talked about and written about and the American people should know. Why's Eric Holder not visiting the Tevlin family? Why is the president not going to mention Brendan Tevlin tonight?” Pettengill said Wednesday on WPLJ’s “The Todd Show.”
Martha MacCallum, who has highlighted the Tevlin case on America's Newsroom, spoke to Pettengill about what he thinks should happen as a result of Tevlin’s death.
Pettengill said he may not have heard about this story if his daughter hadn’t been friends with the Tevlin family.
“Where is the outrage for a young man, 19 years old, who was killed because he was an American? That's it. There's no two sides to this story,” he lamented.
MacCallum said initially, people wrongly assumed that Tevlin was killed buying drugs, but it turned out there was no drug-related element to the crime.
"Now we know that he was targeted because he was a white man alone in his car," she noted.
MacCallum pointed out that Brown is the suspect in three other targeted killings. She noted that it looks like a case of “serial terrorism.”
Pettengill said he reached out to the family to make sure they were OK that he speak on his show about his outrage over the killing.
"This kid was murdered because he was an American and that's where the story should begin. That's where the discussion should take place. Because domestic terrorism is here. It happened in New Jersey," said Pettengill.
Pettengill asked people to call attention to the murder on social media using #BrendanTevlin and visit the Facebook page dedicated to Tevlin's memory.

Watch the full segment above, and read more on the case below from The Star Ledger:The man accused of gunning down a Livingston teenager in his car earlier this summer told investigators the murder was an act of retribution for U.S. military action against Muslims in the Middle East.
According to court documents filed Wednesday in Washington state, where he is accused of killing three other men, Ali Muhammad Brown said he considered it his mission to murder 19-year-old Brendan Tevlin as an act of “vengeance” for innocent lives lost in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Iran.
“All these lives are taken every single day by America, by this government. So a life for a life,” he told detectives, according to the documents.
Brown, 29, also confessed to killing the other men, all of whom, like Tevlin, were shot multiple times in isolated areas late at night. He described the murder as a “just kill” – carried out against an adult male who was not in the company of any women, children or elderly persons, court papers said.
Prosecutors say Brown is a devout Muslim who had become angered by U.S. military intervention in the Islamic world, which he referred to as “evil.” He also referred to drug use as inherently evil.
“During the interview Brown also stated that, as part of his beliefs, if a ‘man sees evil then he must take action against that evil’,” according to court papers.
