    My guess is that it was buckshot, probably double ought. Not too many home defenders use slugs from my experience. Regardless, buckshot is easier and much more effective in a panic situation where the hands might be shaking a bit. I would likely have done exactly what the guy did. Not too much time to think during these types of encounters.

    Buckshot also keeps tight for the first 10 to 12 feet after leaving the barrel.
    Bird shot would spread in less than half that distance.

    Some States are expanding their Castle Doctrines with Stand Your Ground Statutes. In Alabama for instance, it extends to a person's vehicle.

    There was a picture in the local newspaper a year of so ago of the line of people, some on walkers, that went around the block when a special $5.00 permit fee was announced just for seniors. It is a great deterrent.
