Denver, CO -- Her name was once synonymous with legal and political battles nationwide, now more than a year after her death, Terri Schiavo is a part of Colorado politics

At a news conference in Denver Wednesday, widower Michael Schiavo announced he's stepping back into the media spotlight for personal reasons.

"I'm not a political person, but I'll stand behind anybody who believes that government should not be in our personal business," said Schiavo.

Schiavo is touring the country, taking aim at several members of Congress for their efforts blocking his decision to remove his wife's feeding tube.

"They're there to do a job and run the country, and half of them can't even do that, why do they need to put their noses in our personal business?" said Schiavo.

Among Schiavo's targets, Colorado Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, Texas Congressman Tom Delay, and Tennessee Senator Bill Frist.

Schiavo plans to travel to those other states if necessary.

However, during his Colorado campaign event, a mother in the front row took objection to Schiavo's political involvement.

Linda Evans Shepherd is the parent of a 20-year-old woman on life support after she was injured during a car accident as a baby.

"I mean he says rights of privacy for himself, but what about her (Terri's) mom?" said Shepherd.

"As a mom of a disabled adult, my heart went out to that family," said Shepherd.

Shepherd says Schiavo's story became the country's business in the name of a right for life.

"As an international speaker, I have women roll up to me in their wheelchairs and say to me, 'I have brain damage too, and I'm afraid they're going to kill me next'," said Shepherd.

Schiavo is campaigning on behalf of two Democratic Congressional candidates in Colorado, State Representative Angie Paccione, running in the 4th District, and Peggy Lamm, who is running for the seat being vacated by Rep. Bob Beauprez in the 7th District.

His wife, Terri, died on March 31, 2005 after her feeding tube was removed.
