CHICAGO (STNG) ― An 18-year-old man was charged with murder early Friday for the fatal shooting of man shot while riding in a funeral procession Monday on the Southwest Side.

Charges were approved at 1:30 a.m. for Nino Abraham, of the 4500 block of South Hermitage Avenue, who was charged with murder in the fatal shooting Monday of Issac Saucedo, which occurred in the 5800 block of South Archer Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.

Saucedo of 4737 S. Hoyne Ave. was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 2:31 p.m. Monday, June 23, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The shooting happened about an hour earlier in the 5800 block of South Archer Avenue during the funeral procession of an alleged gang member, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.

Saucedo was driving a van in the procession when the shooter, who was in a white van with a green stripe, drove alongside Saucedo's van and fired a shot. Saucedo's van crashed into the shooter's van, which then fled the scene, Mirabelli said.

The van with the green stripe was recovered shortly after the incident near 47th Street and Seeley Avenue where it was "dumped," according to Deering District police, who said Saucedo was allegedly killed as a result of an ongoing conflict between the Two-Sixers and Latin Saints gangs.

When Saucedo was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, hospital staff decided to temporarily shut down the emergency room area because of the shooting, according to hospital spokesman Mike Maggio.

Maggio said the shut down was a "precaution" and was done to ensure the safety of hospital staff and customers. There were no problems after the patient arrived.

Information on who the funeral was for was not available.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
