(RTTNews) - An inebriated Mexican passenger onboard a Bangkok-Delhi flight of Indian carrying 95 passengers threatened to blow up the aircraft forcing the plane to make an emergency landing at 3:20 PM at the NSC Bose international airport at Kolkata on Wednesday.

The passenger on flight IC-854 was allegedly in an inebriated condition and had misbehaved with co-passengers and threatened to blow up the plane before he was overpowered, an Airports Authority of India spokesman said.

The unidentified Mexican passenger was arrested after the plane landed and no bomb or explosives were found, the spokesman said.

The pilot, alerted by crew members, had contacted the Air Traffic Control at Kolkata airport and sought permission for emergency landing which was immediately granted. After the plane landed all passengers disembarked safely and commandos, security personnel and the bomb squad surrounded the aircraft before it was taken to the isolation bay.

The Indian government had put all airports across the country on high alert after intelligence sources warned of terror attacks on air travelers.
