Intruders kill officer in Juárez home

A police investigator wounded in an attack last month was killed early Thursday when a group of armed men stormed into his home as the crime wave in Juárez continued.

Omero Chavira Marquez, 35, was a coordinator with the ministerial police who had been on medical leave since June 30, when he and another officer were wounded by shots fired at a police pickup, Chihua hua state police said. At 5 a.m. Thursday, Chavira was shot multiple times by the armed intruders. Investigators found 14 bullet casings at the scene.

In a separate assault on police, motorcycle transit officer Raul Ricardo Rodriguez Carrera, 33, was wounded when he was shot at 12:45 p.m. Thursday while patrolling on Manuel Gomez Morin Boulevard, police said. Rodriguez was hospitalized in serious condition.

Police said that he was shot by a motorcyclist, whom he may had ticketed.

About 3:20 a.m. Thursday, an unidentified man was found shot to death in a car in the Los Lagos area.

Wednesday night, motorcyclist Jose Rosales Estrada, 33, was gunned down while riding in the Felipe Angeles area and Miguel Angel Reveles Sierra, 35, was found fatally shot in the bed of a pickup at the Lola mechanic shop on Chimalpopocatl street.

At 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, four "well-dressed" men in their 20s robbed the popular Applebee's restaurant on Avenida Paseo Triunfo de

la Republica by Avenida Lopez Mateos. One of the men fired into the air before the other three robbed customers and took cash from the register, police said.
