For those of you with Jewel Osco stores in your area you might be interested to know that yesterday I noticed they've put up a "Career Center" at the front of our store with a nice big sign in English AND Spanish. The application can be done on the computer in this career center and the applicant can choose a Spanish application. I happened to see a guy using it yesterday and he was filling out his application in Spanish.

The area we live in does not have a lot of Spanish speaking customers but apparently the store has decided that it's just fine to hire people with such a poor or nonexistant grasp of the English language that they need their applications to be in Spanish. I am furious. We all know how this will go. It happened in the last town I lived in. A few Spanish signs go up and before you know it the store is frequented by so many Spanish speakers that the products our family enjoys are no longer carried. They are replaced by products that the Spanish speaking people want to buy. Furthermore, how can someone who is not bilingual, but who speaks only Spanish help out a customer who speaks English?

If you have time, please send an email expressing your disapproval or Jewel's practice of Spanish signs in their career center. Thanks.
