L.A. County Passes Plastic Bag Ban

More California Nuttiness: L.A. County Passes Plastic Bag Ban
    By Ken Shepherd | November 16, 2010 | 17:40

San Francisco and Los Angeles must be having a competition to see which California city is most committed to passing inane liberal legislation.

Given the move by Los Angeles County today to ban plastic bags and impose a paper bag tax, I'm going to have to go with L.A.

The Los Angeles Times' L.A. Now blog has the story:

Enacting one of the nation's most aggressive environmental measures, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to ban plastic grocery bags in unincorporated areas of the county.

The vote was 3-1, supported by Supervisors Gloria Molina, Mark Ridley-Thomas, and Zev Yaroslavsky, and opposed by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. Supervisor Don Knabe was absent.

The ban, which will cover nearly 1.1 million residents countywide, is to the point: “No store shall provide to any customer a plastic carryout bag.â€

I'm all for reusable bags, but cloth bags for grocery items aren't good because condensation and leaks contaminate the bag for future use and most people aren't going to wash their bags every time they go to the store. There are some very nice lattice style plastic reusable bags that are ideal. My sister has one and it is fantastic. But the government shouldn't "ban" plastic bags. And using paper bags takes trees and we don't have enough of them as it is so sorry LA County -- you did it wrong again.

Can't you get anything right? Why don't you pass an AZ immigration law for your county and boy will you ever see a drop in plastic bags blowing all over the place. Try it, you'll see.
