Just one day? American volunteers in third world countries may stay for up to two weeks on their volunteer projects. Why do we rate so low? 8O :?

It is much easier to get people to volunteer for a day or 2 days over a weekend than to ask them to take a week or 2 off from work without pay.

If you are going to travel all the way to another country it makes more sense to stay for a week or 2. Some of them probably volunteer for a week or 2 once in their lifetime. While others might volunteer 1 or 2 days once a year, or every couple of years.

I think the negative comments are in folks reading this as a revelation that Americans also are suffering. Too few of us know what the lives of Americans in remote regions are really about. What we see is that our medical systems are overrun by the non-English speakers, who get the best treatment in the world, and no questions asked. It should be Americans first in all situations, not border violators dropping anchor babies.
Yes, there is a lot of anger about the advantage the illegals take of whatever is offered to them, while Americans are thrown by the wayside because they live in a remote area and are poor. Our generosity needs to begin at home but it seems that whatever interloper arrives here is given all the perks without having to pay any price.
