LOS ALAMOS, N.M. -- One of the country's head nuclear officials visited the Los Alamos National Laboratory on Friday to assess the facility's conditions following the Las Conchas fire.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Mexico Governor's Office released figures Thursday night, saying that there is a very low level of radiation in the air.

But Tom D'Agostino, of the National Nuclear Security Administration, said the government is planning ahead.

"(We are planning) to bring in the right type of equipment and to assign water culverts in the right locations to make sure that if there are concerns, they are properly contained," D'Agostino said.

Laboratory officials said they have gone to great lengths in the recent years to restore areas of the facility, as well as other areas where there could have been possible contamination.
