“I commend the Federal Air Marshals on board United Airlines flight 663 last night, who swiftly responded to a potential threat to passenger safety while the plane was in flight. These highly trained individuals took appropriate and immediate action to secure the aircraft and communicate the potential threat to authorities on the ground—ensuring that the flight was met by TSA and law enforcement officials when it landed safely in Denver. I spoke to the Air Marshals this morning, and I expressed my appreciation for their vital service keeping passengers around the world safe from potential threats of terrorism—work that nearly always goes unnoticed. We always treat security-related incidents seriously until verified otherwise, and thankfully this incident posed no actual security threat.â€

Officials: Plane scare diplomat likely sent home

DENVER (AP) — A Qatari diplomat who sparked a bomb security scare after sneaking a smoke in an airplane's bathroom will likely be sent home or transferred to another country, U.S. officials said Thursday.

Officials from various agencies were involved in internal discussions as well as talks with Qatar's embassy about how to deal with Mohammed Al-Madadi.

Authorities say the diplomat grabbed a surreptitious smoke in a jetliner's bathroom during a flight from Washington to Denver and then joked about lighting his shoe on fire. Al-Madidi was released from custody on Thursday and headed back to Washington.

A State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. government was discussing the case with the Qataris and said the department had conveyed the seriousness of the matter to the Qataris.

From a little sex on the side to criminal activity, etc.
Apparently you don't have to be real smart to represent any country.
