Maui County, Hawaii, is warning local residents that they should not drink tap water, because there is currently no "way to make it safe" even with filters following the Lahaina fires.
Residents of both Lahaina and Upper Kula are being urged to drink only bottled water from elsewhere because deadly chemicals are lurking in the water, just like they so often do after wildfire events in California and other such places.
"It's alarming that it may be in the water system for a while," said Anne Rillero, who along with her husband Arnie have decided to eat frozen pizza off of paper plates for the time being to avoid exposure.
Rillero, a retired conservation communication specialist who has lived on the island of Maui for 22 years, would normally not have to worry about toxic water. But because of the fires, this is a whole new problem for residents of Maui.

After a major wildfire, urban water supplies remain TOXIC for a long while

The government of Hawaii says Brita home water filtration devices are inadequate to purify the toxic water, as are common filters attached to refrigerators and sinks. Even whole-house water systems are unlikely to address the "extreme contamination" that occurs to water systems after a local fire.
"They will remove some of it, but levels that will be acutely and immediately toxic will get through," commented Andrew Whelton, a Purdue University researcher and expert in water contamination following a wildfire in an urban area.

The Maui fires damaged hundreds of drinking water pipes throughout the city, resulting in a massive pressure loss that allows toxic chemicals, along with metals and bacteria, to seep into water lines.
"You can pull in contaminated or dirty water from the outside, even when those lines are underground," added David Cwiertny, a civil and environmental engineering professor at the University of Iowa.
Aerial imagery and damage assessment data generated by Vexcel Data shows that about 460 buildings in Lahaina remain undamaged. Each of these structures will see residents return, hence the government warnings to them to avoid drinking the water for the time being.
Local residents are instead encouraged to use bottled water for all their needs, or to fill their own jugs at special tankers called water buffalos, which have been brought in to the hardest-hit areas to help residents stay hydrated.
The Hawaii state health department has ordered Maui County, which operates water delivery systems for most of the island's residents, to commence testing of the water for 23 different chemicals. Keep in mind that there are many more potentially deadly chemicals lurking in the tainted water – these are just the ones for which the federal government has established drinking water contamination limits.
Back in 2018 in California, those affected by the infamous Camp Fire received similar messages from four separate government agencies warning them that their drinking water was contaminated.
Up until just a few years ago, it was generally believed that the only water contamination following a wildfire occurred right at the source, such as in a spot where ash runs into a river or reservoir used for drinking.
The 2017 Tubbs Fire in California, followed by the Camp Fire a year later, "are the first known wildfires where widespread drinking water chemical contamination was discovered in the water distribution network," reads a recent study published by researchers at the American Water Works Association.

At least 114 people had been confirmed dead and over a thousand were still unaccounted for following the early August wildfires that spread in the heart of Maui, an island in Hawaii. The devastating fires burned much of the historic town Lahaina and forced scared, desperate people to jump into the ocean to escape the flames.
It's now considered as the deadliest wildfire in modern U.S. history, surpassing the 2018 Camp Fire in California that killed 85.
Officials have expressed fears that the death toll could still increase, with Maui Mayor Richard Bissen offering "prayers for comfort in this inconsolable time" to the families of the victims.
Mahina Martin, a spokesperson for Maui County, said that flyovers of the coastal town of Lahaina by the U.S. Civil Air Patrol and the Maui Fire Department revealed the extent of the destruction and loss. The Lahaina town center dates to the 1700s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Aerial footage reveals dozens of homes and businesses in Lahaina were flattened, including on Front Street, a popular shopping and dining spot for tourists.
Richard Olsten, a helicopter pilot for a tour company, said the view was "horrifying" and that he had never seen anything like it in his 52 years of flying in the area. Olsten, other pilots on board, and the mechanics were brought to tears by the devastation.
Acting Gov. Sylvia Luke said the flames "wiped out communities" and advised travelers to stay away because the place is still unsafe.
The Maui fire is the deadliest one in America in 100 years, rivaling the 1918 Cloquet wildfire in Minnesota, which claimed the lives of more than 450 people. The Cloquet fire started in the area because it was experiencing tinder-dry conditions and a spark from a passing train started the destructive fire.

Officials urge visitors to leave Lahaina

Maui officials have advised visitors to leave Lahaina. The island organized a "mass bus evacuation" on Wednesday afternoon to drive people directly to the airport, according to an update from the county.
The county also said that West Maui is still without cell or landline phone service and electricity.
Maj. Gen. Kenneth Hara, adjutant general for the Hawaii State Department of Defense, said that while the exact cause of the blaze is still unconfirmed, several factors, such as high winds, low humidity and dry vegetation, could have contributed to its rapid spread. The wind-driven wildfire spread through the area with alarming speed and ferocity as it burned through intersections and spread across wooden buildings in the Lahaina town center.
Tiare Lawrence, whose 14 cousins and uncles escaped the town and took refuge at her home in Pukalani, east of Lahaina, said her relatives described the fires as "apocalyptic."
Ke?eaumoku Kapu, a Lahaina resident, said he was tying down loose objects in the wind at the Na Aikane o Maui cultural center he runs in town when his wife showed up on Aug. 8 Tuesday afternoon.
She warned him that they needed to evacuate. Kapu added that around that time, "things got crazy, the wind started picking up." He said he and his wife were lucky because they managed to escape "in the nick of time."
Kapu said they saw "fire and billowing smoke." Together with a friend, Kapu and his wife rushed into his pickup truck. In the time it took for them to turn around, their building was already in flames.
The National Weather Service said that Hurricane Dora, which was passing to the south of the island chain at a safe distance of 500 miles (805 kilometers), was partly to blame for gusts above 60 mph (97 kph) that knocked out the power and grounded firefighting helicopters on the island of Maui.
James Tokioka, director of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, said the residents have lost everything, from their homes to their animals.
Kapu said they didn't have time to pack anything before they had to drive away. They were forced to leave behind years of research material and important artifacts.
Lawrence said that while Lahaina is often thought of as just a Maui tourist town, it has a strong Hawaiian community. She added that she was heartbroken because others like her have lost their homes and precious memories in Lahaina.
Federal investigators to find out what caused the fire

Investigators from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were sent to Maui to find out the exact origin and cause of what is now considered the deadliest U.S. wildfire in a century. The five-member ATF team includes an electrical engineer, fire investigators and other personnel from Washington, D.C., Honolulu, Maryland and Seattle.
Since the fire, which began on Aug. 8, killed more than 100 people, speculation about what caused it pointed to power lines, but investigators have found no definitive proof.
Experts believe one possible cause of the fire was high winds that downed power lines in the affected areas.
Some victims have sued Hawaiian Electric, the state's largest utility, because they believe it provided equipment that wasn't strong enough to withstand heavy winds. Victims have also accused the utility of failing to turn off the power after high wind warnings were issued.
Hawaiian Electric officials claimed that turning off the power would have endangered those who needed medical treatments that relied on electricity. Officials added that a shutdown could also have hindered the work of emergency workers.
Several teams with cadaver dogs are still searching the ruins of Lahaina town and authorities have repeatedly said it is still unclear how many were killed in the fire.
As of writing, the number of people unaccounted for is still at about 1,000, suggesting that the death toll will continue to increase. Officials said that only 35 autopsies have been completed and only seven people have been identified.
According to reports, the Maui wildfire has also destroyed or damaged over 2,200 buildings, 86 percent of which are residential. The damage is estimated to be worth $5.5 billion.
At a news conference, Hawaii Governor Josh Green announced that help is arriving for those left homeless by the tragedy. Over 2,000 housing units, including 400 hotel rooms, 1,400 Airbnb units and 160 private homes are being made available for them.
Jeremy Greenberg, the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) director of response operations, said more than 3,200 residents of Hawaii have registered to receive federal assistance, with the number expected to rise.

The West Maui disaster is becoming less about the fire and more about the government's bizarre response to the aftermath. Independent media sources and some mainstream media sources have confirmed multiple instances of the Democrat controlled government's mismanagement that led to the escalation of the tragedy. The circus included a woke water management bureaucrat who believes water is "godlike" and that it must be distributed according to the rules of "equity; the same official withheld vital firefighting resources for a day while Maui burned. The state government has been thoroughly embarrassed, but instead of responding with humility, they have doubled down and gone on the attack.

The Governor of Hawaii, Josh Green, took a wild swing at independent reporting, telling people not to listen to information from social media and "influencers." It's hard to say what his definition of an "influencer" is, only that he is clearly hostile to anyone reporting news outside of the government narrative. Green's disapproval of media reporting is not limited to alternative journalists, however. It appears that there is now an information blackout being instituted by the state. Corporate journalists are also being denied access to the area of the fire damage path as well as access to any details surrounding the investigation into how the fires may have started.

The lockdown is reminiscent of the state's recent draconian covid response and has undertones similar to the Hurricane Katrina calamity in 2005. It is possible that the Hawaiian government got a taste of ultimate power over the past few years and now they think that 1st Amendment rights no longer apply. The editor of the Maui Times reiterates that the government is shutting out all media inquiries and they are not to blame for the lack of confirmed updates on the situation.

There are a few possible takeaways to be gathered here: First, it's clear that independent reporting is having an effect in exposing state mismanagement, which is why they are attacking "influencers" and putting access on ice. Second, public pressure must be immense, because even the local media is trying to stave off the torches and pitchforks by reiterating that they have no access. When was the last time you saw the mainstream media calling out information controls instead of working in direct lockstep with officials? Third, there is something going on in Maui beyond bureaucratic hubris.

Why block the media from going to the site of the fire? Why try to inoculate the public to any information outside of government sources? Is there something they are trying to hide beyond incompetence? There is evidence to suggest that a major land grab is already in progress, with wealthy interests as well as state interests circling the charred Maui carcass ready to feed. There are also questions as to the true source of the fires.
Frankly, if government policy decisions led to the deaths of hundreds of people then they should pay the price for their blunders. If other shady activities are afoot, then the public has a right to know. The state is not given license to deny media examination of the event. Democrats in Hawaii are trying to turn the tables and make the calamity about who deserves to report the news, when they should be scrambling to save their own skins in the face of intense public scrutiny. These people deserve to be placed under a very large and uncomfortable microscope.

Matt Wallace, the account that posted this disturbing video, is of the persuasion that the reason why Hawaii officials deprived Lahaina of much-needed water to put out the fires, and why Hawaii officials are now ordering good Samaritans not to help those in need, is a sign that "they" want all the poor people to be removed from Maui.
"Maui is a small series of islands with a population of only about 165,000 people," Wallace writes. "Of those individuals, most of them are very wealthy, and a lot of them are celebrities."

Consensus is growing that the Maui fires were INTENTIONAL to facilitate a government "land grab"

The excuse given by Twitter's (now "X") "Readers added context" section below the tweet containing the above video about why the police officer ordered the do-gooders to leave the limited access area is supposedly because "unqualified" individuals were trying to obtain placards to enter.
Whether this is actually true or not is unknown, but it is obvious that government officials in Hawaii are not all that interested in helping the surviving victims of the disaster, which appear to be completely on their own.
A growing number of people believe that the reason for all these anomalies is that these fires were intentional and aimed at driving out the poor in order to facilitate a massive, government-led land grab in one of the most desirable tropical destinations in the world.
We also now know that Hawaiian Electric, Hawaii's largest power supplier, failed to invest in addressing the fire risk around its power lines, instead choosing to invest in "renewable" energy sources that the powers that be claim will stop global warming and climate change.
"Hawaiian Electric had plans to spend nearly $200 million on wildfire mitigation measures but only spent a fraction of that amount, as the company focused more on complying with state renewable energy mandates," Ground News reported.
John Podesta, fake president Joe Biden's advisor on clean energy, has since come forward to blame climate change for the devastation, rather than the government's "green" energy policies that allowed it to happen in the first place.
"The Maui tragedy serves as yet another stark reminder of the devastating and deadly consequences of left-wing policies and agendas that threaten people, the environment, and even the planet," warns Revolver.
"And after their dangerous policies epically fail, the left shamelessly lies to cover it up so they can fundraise more money to bankroll future failed policies."

It has come out that a Hawaii state official deprived Lahaina landowners of the water they needed to protect their properties before the fiery inferno burned it all to the ground.
On Aug. 8 when the fires first began, the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) delayed the release of water requested by the West Maui Land Co. to help keep the fire contained and well away from people's properties.
Why did they do this, exactly? One source claims that a "woke" politician of a leftist bent set out to harm the people of Lahaina by intentionally depriving them of water until after it was already too late.
M. Kaleo Manuel, a native Hawaiian cultural practitioner and the DLNR's deputy director for water resource management, made the decision to withhold water from Lahaina. Manuel later released the requested water, but not until after the fire had already run its course.
As of this writing, neither Manuel nor any other government official in Hawaii has commented on the revelation.

Gov. Josh Green: Water a source of great conflict in Maui "for many years"

The West Maui Land Co. (WML) manages a number of agricultural and residential subdivisions all throughout West Maui. Other water regulators in the region include the Launiupoko Irrigation Co., the Launiupoko Water Co., the Olowalu Water Co., and the Ha'iku Town Water Association.
Four separate sources with knowledge about the situation have pegged Manuel as the culprit in rejecting the release of water to the fire-stricken area. Manuel reportedly asked WML to first get permission from a kalo (taro) farm located downstream from the company's property.

Hawaii Gov. John Green, a Democrat, has promised a thorough investigation into this and other strange matters related to the fires. According to an official response from the governor's office, "conflicts over water are being reshaped in an age of climate change and wildfires."
"One thing that people need to understand, especially those from far away, is that there's been a great deal of water conflict on Maui for many years," Green said. "It's important that we're honest about this. People have been fighting against the release of water to fight fires. I'll leave that to you to explore."
Back in 2022, two state senators, both from Maui, submitted a bill that would have pushed the DLNR "to allow fresh water to be used to fight fires and pointed to West Maui as being particularly vulnerable." That bill died without a hearing and was never passed into law.
One would think that in an emergency situation such as an out-of-control fire that it would be an all-hands-on-deck kind of situation as far as getting as much water to the scene as possible, as quickly as possible. The opposite happened in Lahaina and West Maui.
The issue seems to stem from Native Hawaiians' discontent with the takeover of their homeland by what they deem to be outsiders. This includes land owners and their water rights, which remains a point of contention across Maui.
"There is going to be much more coming from this story of the Maui fires," one commenter wrote about how all these anomalies and conspiracies are only scratching the surface of the true extent of the criminality that took place behind the scenes of this horrific incident.
"For some reason, West Maui has become a 'media-free zone' with many highly suspicious events surrounding the fire and how it originated in the first place."

Every major U.S. Military Operation has both a public and private code name. According to our insider sources and we have multiple, the actual secret code name of the highly organized and long planned black operation to incinerate Lahaina is: OPERATION INCINERATE LAHAINA.

What the whole world witnessed via the Internet in Maui on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, was nothing short of a full-scale military assault on the “census-designated place” known as Lahaina.

This was a highly coordinated military operation which utilized a multi-pronged strategy and numerous battlefield tactics, all designed to completely destroy the targeted city as quickly and efficiently as possible.

In short, this was a military experiment. It was a dress rehearsal for many similar ops that will likely be executed around the world with the same precision and cold calculation.

The primary perpetrators at the purely operation level operated in total secret in an Operation Gladio-type of virtual space which functions under the command of NATO (aka the North Atlantic Terrorist Organization).
