These days, the majority of our seafood is imported from countries with no regulation (shrimp, according to a 2002 report in the WSJ, were 88% farm-raised purchased by Red Lobster and Olive Garden -- to keep shrimp alive in that environment they are fed antibiotics which are not allowed in this country, but the corporation keeps importing the stuff while our fishing fleets sit idle.)
I have seen the Chesapeake Bay and Florida rivers turn green from pollution runoff. There is a hypoxic zone at the mouth of the Mississippi the size of NJ from farm runoff of chemicals from farm fields, and that is an area where fish do not have enough dissolved oxygen to survive.
Our apple juice concentrate and vitamin C are both majority produced in China.
No, we do not need this legislation, but these corporations need to discern between their responsibility to their customers and making a buck. It really seems they have chosen the latter as more important.
