Mexico Visit to Build on KC SmartPort, Missouri

Mexico Visit to Build on KC SmartPort, Missouri Trade Progress
Gov. Matt Blunt will lead a trade mission to Mexico early next week to continue progress towards a Customs Port Facility in Kansas City and to identify ways Missouri may strengthen relationships with its international partner.

Jefferson City, Mo. - infoZine - "As Missouri's second largest trading partner, Mexico is a very important market for our state," Blunt said. "Our business ties extend over decades, and I am hopeful that a new Customs Port Facility in Kansas City focused on U.S. exports to Mexico will open the door not only for many more years of continued business success between us but also for new Missouri jobs and the opportunity to expand our position in the global economy."

The trip will build on the progress and relationships that have grown from the governor's first visit to the country almost two years ago. It will provide the opportunity to again discuss the potential Customs Port Facility with government and Mexican customs officials.

The Customs Port Facility will be the first of its kind ever in the U.S. and would allow U.S. exported goods to be cleared through Kansas City instead of along the U.S./Mexican border. The facility would reduce costs and improve efficiency to move goods out of the U.S. and into Mexico.

While in Mexico, Blunt will meet with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Minister of Communications & Transportation Luis Tellez, Minister of Finance & Public Credit Agustin Carstens, Director of Mexican Customs Juan Jose Bravo, the Governor of the State of Michoacan Lazaro Cardenas and U.S. Ambassador Antonio "Tony" Garza.

In 2005, the most recent data available, Missouri exported $1.15 billion in products to Mexico. This ranks Mexico 2nd among the 232 international buyers of Missouri goods. Missouri exports to Mexico have increased over the last five years by more than $469 million, a change of 68.55 percent. Transportation Equipment at $317 million was the state's largest export in 2005. Missouri's top five exports to Mexico are:

    Agricultural Products
    Food and Kindred Products
    Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components
    Chemicals
    Transportation Equipment

Missouri Department of Economic Development and Kansas City SmartPort leaders will participate in the business mission. The group is scheduled to leave for Mexico Sunday and return on Tuesday. The Hawthorn Foundation, a nonprofit, nonpartisan statewide organization formed to assist both public and private efforts in promoting Missouri's economic development initiatives will sponsor the governor's trip.

I am really fed up with all these state governors going to Mexico on trade missions. Arizona, Texas, California, New Mexico, Missouri, etc......

Opening doors to Mexicanize America and guaranteeing to Mexican leaders that U.S. taxpayers will pay the costs!

Putting a customs port facility in the Kansas City heartland is like putting the Mexican government into Congress. That will be next! Do we still even have a country or is it being ground into the dust?
